Average gates of 5500 and weekly salaries of between £2-£5k a week, wouldn’t think he’s gone there for more money.
Back in for him again next year then. Will we ever see a striker sign for us again? I mean a proper striker not someone who can play in goal or at wingback in a fluid system.
It’s disappointing but I can’t say I blame the lad given whats going on and the uncertainty over how restrictions may develop in the coming months. Had to be a factor in changing his mind.
“Struber is hoping to bring in new players, but appeared to question the club’s financial ability to do so. He said: “We are waiting and searching. We are very close in contact with one or other player but, in the end, we have to invest and when we do not have the power for investment, we have a difficult season.” Worrying.
He’s probably referring to paying the salaries these players demand. We’re never going to be able to increase our salaries unless we can increase revenue. It’s frustrating that we seem to struggle to get decent sponsors and marketing revenue when clubs of similar sizes are. I’m fairly sure I saw some stats from one season that showed Burton or Luton made quite a bit more money in marketing etc. than we did.
First sign of stress ? We are a championship club but with a Div one mentality and it’s been like that since these new owners took over.
This is something I struggle with when discussing recruitment with our supporters. As soon as we move in to the £1.5m to £2m bracket of potential signings, we're also moving in to £10k plus a week territory. If we're signing someone from the lower divisions what will it do to the squad if they come straight in as the top earner? I do feel the club's frustration on that. I don't think it's as simple as us not wanting to pay the wages and more a case of just not being able to.
What’s a Championship mentality and who defines it ? I’d say living within our means is more important , if the owners have to start spending their money then I’ll be worried . Building the club up therefore building up its means is the way to go and it’s my preferred version of Championship mentality , lessons should be learned but not by following previous fiscal mistakes .
And that’s why we will ultimately end up in Div one because we just can’t compete financially in the championship and it’s not a moan from me its just understanding our level these days.
Yeah totally agree. Until we can find a sustainable way of paying 10k plus a week, we’re going to struggle in this league.
I meant worrying that we have had to sell Brown I imagine to balance the books rather than have the funds to improve the team as really we would have been better keeping him as imagine would have been on lesser wages than players we are looking at now anyway and undoubtedly looks to have weakened our squad.
I think this year more than any the club probably get a free hit on selling someone to balance the books. At least in my eyes anyway. Revenues must be decimated
The sheer limits of your optimism for the club you support are outstanding. I for one never even gave up hope at any stage. I think we have a stronger team this season than we did last term. Beaten Boro. Lost to 12 men at the weekend. Luton we weren't at the races to be fair. Looking far, far more solid at the back, team playing more like a unit. Try a bit of hope ffs. Doesn't matter one bit when we sign the players in the window as long as the deal fits the team, manager, player and club.
Conceded 3 and not scored yet in the league. Our win against Boro was a weakened team. Hopefully your optimism is rewarded. Looks like the same team as last season with nothing improving our frontline so far.
