Some background on him below. The short story being he battered his girlfriend, got locked up, tweeted about it when released so got put back inside, now back out and been on trial at Selby Town. In their statement they are basically saying he's done his time and deserves a second chance. Whilst as seen in the comments to their tweet a lot of people don't want a guy like that playing for them. He's done his time but arguably for his crime it was a light sentence. It will be hard for fans because they all want a goal scorer but you don't want someone like that around your club as it would feel weird cheering them on. Lee Hughes banged them in for Oldham when he came out of prison and Evans has done the same for Fleetwood. https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/mum-two-battered-footballer-ex-3342097 https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/footballer-reece-thompson-sent-back-3861796 This is his Twitter account where the above article mentions he tweeted..... https://twitter.com/reece22thompson
Wow! I dont know the case but usually domestic violence custodial sentences aren't very long. I wouldn't be going, at the end of the day going to prison does impact on your life going forward .
Extremely light sentence, the question is has he shown any attrition and owned up to what he did? If not then why should he be given a job loads of us would give an organ to do? I'm all for second chances but he was given the opportunity to change his life forever he blew it. Its not like he made a mistake like having a drugs, he committed a violent act towards a woman.
Selby play in the Northern Counties East League Division One. You should never need a footballer to play for your club badly enough that you are prepared to employ someone who hit a woman with an iron bar. I'm sure there are other players who are capable of scoring the winner against Armthorpe Welfare.
I'm off to watch Selby vs Emley this evening.... I know a few that go along most weeks who aren't going to go now. It's not gone down well this one especially after apologising last month for giving the lad a trial. It seems he's either willing to play for free or the manager really wanted him and made an ultimatum.
I'd have withdrawn my support had we employed Premier Inn Ched. The club probably wouldn't have given a fvck, but there's no other way to demonstrate my feelings on the matter.
He should never play football again. F*****g animal. Hope someone snaps him in half and ends his career.
I can forgive people daft spur of the moment mistakes, most people could lash out if the circumstances align but not what he’s done. That’s a campaign of abuse. I couldn’t imagine cheering for that sort of person.
Whilst agreeing re Ched. Being a person I wouldn’t want to be associated with. The things he did although true. Suggest the lass was a victim of her own doing and a proven liar. Driven out by people who knew her. Not excusing what he did ( horrible person but there’s plenty of them about and would hazard a guess a few footballers have done similar things ) but when he was found guilty I wouldn’t have set foot in the place again. Not sure I’d feel the same now. proved innocent of the accusations. The lass played the victim when it appears she was a willing participant. If we employed Barton I wouldn’t think twice. A proven thug on more than one occasion. What’s the latest on his case btw. Edit June 2021. Pathetic.
Very harsh on his "victim". His girlfriend and her family hounded her and money bought his acquittal.
Him being found not guilty doesn't make her a liar or a willing participant. She could have been unable to consent but he had a reasonable belief that she consented.
She was drunk as the police noted and therefore unable to give consent. His precious inlaws derided her all over social media, spoke to men she had consensual sex with and then used those "terms" in order to say she said them during sex and therefore it must he consensual. The victim remembers none of this. Money talks.
As I understood it the jury must have believed she wasnt too drunk and consented to sex with Macdonald, who afterwards rang Evans to come to the room.
I'm not sure tbh. I just remember when there was talk of him going back to the blunts looking it up Cant believe how active in support his fil to be was, if I'd been him I'd have wanted him nowhere near my daughter!
No, it wasn't about whether she was too drunk to consent as I believe that was pretty much accepted in the first trial. The question was whether the defendants had a reasonable belief that she was able to consent and was consenting, as if there is a reasonable belief then there is no mens rea. It's much easier to establish a reasonable belief as to consent with Mcdonald given that he had been out with her all evening and she had agreed to go back to his hotel rather than with Ched, who turned up when she was already drunk and had sex with her pretty much immediately from what I gather.
