Just came across this old video and it stills brings tears to the eyes and a lump to the throat. One club legend reminiscing about another club legend.
So many folk couldn't get in. People everywhere. And then lined Grove Street as he made his final journey past Oakwell. If any of us are as revered, remembered and respected as much as Rimmo, we'll have done well. Sithi.
Always remember Rimmo when he was the Physio , running on with his bucket n sponge and although they didn’t go down for nothing in those days like they do now , they didn’t stay down for too long when they saw him running on with that bucket . RIP Rimmo always remembered , a true legend .
Thanks for posting that. I'm sitting here, like many who have watched it, with a tear or two in my eyes. It's a superb eulogy, from a great lad, for a wonderful human being. Like anyone who had the privilege to meet Norman, my memories of him are of an ultra-warm man who always had time for you. I was on the club's books as a schoolboy and he made me feel very special whenever we came across each other. Even when he had to cut off my big toe nail to ***** a blister, he did it with compassion and much humour! His last days were at Mapplewell Manor Care Home where my Mum stays. If any of his family read this, I want to say thank-you to them again for letting me go and see him in his room when he was on his last legs. If I ever I get to heaven, it's guaranteed that I'll be one of the thousands of spirits supporting the McCarthy / Rimmo Heavens XI.
If anyone hadn't got it................... ***** = the following letters re-arranged in a different order............pckir
We have cleaners, buddy. That's their job. The academy lads still clean the first team's boots though.
That's why all the plastic mega rich owners who spend daft amounts on players to appease fans will never get it. Would you rather speak to a Roman Abramovich or a Jay Glazer or would you have rather sat with Rimmo or big Eric.
It's good kids learn their way, but times have changed, (for wrong or right), so it's down to clubs to work that out. I'd rather go back to the days of Shankly, Bobby Robson & Clough, but it ain't gonna happen. I'm sure we are in good hands with the youth, you just look at the personnel and the players we are bringing through.
Cloughy was more likely to ask you to walk his dog than clean boots. What a bloke, I'd have loved to have played for him.
I was there, incredibly touching from Big Mick. It was a great send off for a legend of BFC but someone who have known and been close to for all my years.
I retain a little pipe dream that one day he'll manage us and under his leadership there'll be a return to the heady days of the 80s - big crowds, raw passion and players who were more loyal and connected to the club and the fans. Yes, I know it can never be more than a dream......
