@YTBFC being tripped up by Thomas and Mowatt has been my highlight this week. We have some decent players but they seem to have lost their way over the first few weeks of the season. Confidence in front of goal is a serious issue - both strikers have shown they know whetr the back of the net is. Suffered from a lack of quality service

I think one problem we have is that our talisman, the focus of our team, and someone I like a lot (it's very difficult not to like someone who gives that much effort every game) isn't as good in the Championship as we hoped he would be. His shooting is poor, his set pieces are poor, but the biggest problem is the running through treacle thing, when you're watching him and he just looks so slow. He's a yard or more short of pace and it's hindering him much more than any of us feared it might. I'm talking about Mowatt. There's no lack of effort, ever, and he's not short of skill or a football brain, but he's not capable of taking the game by the scruff of the neck in this division and giving us a victory. He's not our weak link, not by a long chalk, but every good team, or every team on a budget that beats the odds, has a match winner. Mowatt was ours in League 1. He isn't in this division. I don't want rid of him, but I'd like a replacement for that role with Mowatt being less of the focus and more of a supporting act. I don't know if he'd accept that, but I do think we'll continue to struggle if we continue to rely on him like we do.

He may not be THE weak link but he is one of them whilst playing in that role. He is beginning to look like Dougal in the sense that he lacks pace and gets caught on the ball too much.

I agree with you, but I find it very difficult to criticise him too much when he clearly gives so much, he clearly cares and there are definitely worse than him.

By supporting act do you mean a bit part squad player or supporting act as in a first team regular playing alongside a more headline grabbing player?

The second, unless we are able to purchase someone who is better, or Styles/Palmer/Wolfe are putting in better performances, and then the first.

That’s more or less spot on - except for the bit when you say - he can’t run, he can’t shoot, he can’t do set pieces ......... but I want to keep him in the team.
    That’s like saying - I’ve got a great television but I can’t get a picture on it.

To be fair Nudge, you've been critical of Mowatt for a long time and said we can't move forward while he's in the team. I understand some of your point of view but not all of it. Yes, he has faults, but he also has positives, and I don't think you acknowledge those. That's not me having a go, we all have an opinion equally as valid as anyone else, I'm just disagreeing. From my perspective his weaknesses mean he shouldn't be our main man. Your point of view is that his weaknesses mean he shouldn't be in the team. I'm not saying I'm right, just that my opinion differs from yours.

Some fair points there, old mate. I don't agree, but you put the argument across in a well argued manner.

You are very welcome to your view - and like all views of this kind I respect it.
But IMO I think yer wrong.
As I’ve said before - Mowatts position in the team is pivotal - and he’s the only one in the squad that comes close to being good at it.
But he’s not good enough - because of those shortcomings that you have pointed out.
We need a replacement - and if I was in the boardroom I’d be advising that some money needs throwing at it - either through a good signing or a top quality loan from a Premeir club.

We have gone from a side that needed just 4 new players to give us a good season.
To now - where we need a new manager and 5 new players - and that’s after signing Helic and Frieser.
At the moment with no coach and just 17 seasoned players we have a weaker squad than what we had last season.
