This new ruling about being in the pub with your mate.......

    So every Friday me and my work partner go for lunch, we’ve done so for the last 6 years, we work side by side 50 hours a week and share the same vehicle most days, however the new rules mean that legally we would be breaching the new laws........now à know we all have to do our bit but this one particularly baffles me

    - flatmates
    - brothers (also living together)
    - one of you is the carer of the other
    - gay couple

    Who’s moaning? I was passing a thought on.........personally other than a 2-4 week full lockdown à don’t see what going to change as people will look to take the piss

    The stupidness of it all that you can't have a one to one drink with someone from another household in a covid secure venue is just going to up the infection rate from people sneaking folks in to their private homes.

    Sorry if my reply was a bit extreme. There are those who will pick flaws in everything as an excuse to do nothing.
    Again, though, with any instruction issued there are going to be daft anomalies. That doesn't make the overall intention wrong.
    If everybody, and I do mean everybody, would use caution and common sense we could maybe get by with the least hardship possible.

    My missus has been in hospital (now nursing home) since mid May....still don't know when or if she will come out. ( has MS but complications). From then until the pubs opened in July I nipped to my mothers for a cuppa a few times a week (against the rules at the time) and she was practically the only person I had contact with at that time. I wasn't allowed to visit the missus until late June...3 times a week for 45 mins staying 6 feet apart. I can now visit her at the nursing home by talking to her through a window that is open 4 inches (regulations). My mental health has taken a right kicking in that time.

    I go to our local at the weekend and meet up with friends for a good drink...they arrive separately to me but they sit at one side of a table an I sit at the other 1m apart. Loads of people / friends arrive and leave the same room all afternoon...we all sit apart and at different tables but all chat and joke with each other. This is the only thing that has kept me going for the last few months.

    Am I now supposed to sit in the house on my own for fear of seeing someone I know in the pub, go to the pub but sit on my own and ignore everybody or just use our common sense and sit apart like we have been doing ?

    I know which one it will be !!!

    Don't get me started on this ...... I'll leave for work in morn. Get on a bus, no track and trace. Get to work with 20-30 lads (I don't know most of em). Go to Morrisons or Asda for a dinner time sarnie or even McDs. Go back to work all day with the lads. Work 10 ISH hours. Then fancy an after-work pint but we can't coz we don't live together........ it's an absolute load of ballax.

    We can't afford to, but we will. Nobody's in the business of pushing it with licensing - you never know when they'll decide to clamp down.

    Are you going to tell Steve and Sue a long term couple who have their own houses they cant sit together?

    Are you gonna tell Rich he cant talk to the bloke sat next to him on the next table?

    Or a family outing of 6 where Gran lives elsewhere...

    I'm not saying I agree with it, by the way. I think it's as stupid as everybody else. But we will be enforcing it. Can't afford to, but certainly can't afford not to.

    Households not being allowed to mix in a covid secure venue really hasn't been thought through. The government have no chance of stopping people seeing their friends and family. It's the one rule all these months later that people won't put up with. All these in Liverpool who can no longer go to a pub will sneak friends around.

    Laws generally take years with consultation from lots of interested parties, the judiciary, the police etc. Even then they can throw up absurdities. These laws are being made on the hoof and are a lot less cogent. The op gives one such instance. The only thing I think we can take is to keep in our minds why we have to act in a sensible way and sometimes why we have to appear to act in such a way to set an example to those who have forgotten or choose to ignore those reasons

    Technically they can all be in 'support bubbles' ..

    Theres always a way around things that are stupid. Its just finding them.

    Hence why its unenforcable.

    Yeah me too mate. Had something similar happen in April and may to me. It kind of has got better, hope it does for you too mate.
