We need a target man. Woodrow.Chaplin and Schmidt would benefit from a target man who can lay their ball off to them. Any free agents out there that w could sign up?
As a counter argument. If we had a target man today we wouldn’t have been able to boss parts of the first half like we did. The press was working, forcing Bristol long, and forcing Martin to come deep where he was basically useless and gave the ball away for us to break a couple of times. We nullified arguably their biggest asset for large spells. We need to do something about how we play the ball in to our forwards, that’s for sure, but what we would gain from a target man we would lose out elsewhere. Better decision making with the final ball today and we take all three points and this thread probably doesn’t get started.
He walked out on Blackburn. Warnock told him to clear his locker and get off home before rush hour traffic.
So their biggest asset was a target man? Yet we don't need one because of our super pressing style. Maybe a cheaper/affordable version of Martin would be worth having for a bit of variation.
We need a big man up front. We need to play 4-4-2. We need Mick McCarthy as manager. Oft-repeated ******** if I may be so bold.
I said arguably. Don't dispute the variation comment. Don't really get your first point as Bristol didn't press the same as us or as effectively, because they opt to have Martin up front.
If you take things on results Bristol are doing ok with a dinasour up front yet we are very good at winning pressing battles ? Just personal opinion but I'd like to have the option of a target man.
Imho we need someone who can hold the ball up or give flick ons to our other forwards. We did this today at time but Chaplin but he has not got the physique to be able to do this role effectively.
Probably not coming across as intended. We don't play the same way as Bristol City, that much was obvious today, so saying we need a target man means our game will suffer in other areas. Such as forcing Bristol long and forcing Martin to be coming and being involved on the half way line. We're short of an athletic forward in my opinion, like Jacob Brown was and like Ivan Toney is (as one example) but not simply a target man. If they can't support the press they'll do more harm than good.
I appreciate what your saying, but at the end of the day football is a simple game. Is Chaplin not an athletic foreward?
Not in the Jacob Brown/Ivan Toney mould he isn't. And he was really poor today. You don't need to be a target man to play the channels much better than we did today. A high ball isn't the only out ball.
I'd swap Chaplin for a bigger bloke that gives us something different, who mentioned high balls are the only balls out ?
In multiple games following the restart last season and again today, we've pushed a centre back forward in the latter stages when we've been chasing games. Struber did it and now Murray's done it. It seems to me that it's an option they both wanted/want - not one that just a few fans want.
Chaplin can finish well given the right opportunity as can Woodrow and Schmidt. Trouble is they tend not to be able to create opprtunities but rather need to be given the ball in the right areas. Our attack looks feeble at the moment as Chaplin is not big enough to intimidate defenders as is nether Schmidt or Woodrow . Never replaced Moore IMHO
I'd swap Chaplin for a bigger bloke who was athletic and could press. I wouldn't simply swap him for someone who is bigger. Some fans talk like booting it to a big man is the only way to relieve pressure or get up the pitch. We can and must play the channels better, both as a midfield and as a strike force. Strangely it's what Chaplin, Woodrow and Brown were all really good at during lockdown.
Looks like you're taking the big bloke thing personally!! Some fans just think a different option up front would benefit the team and hopefully improve results.
