Nowt wrong with fat. It was the sugar producers that paid "scientists" to produce reports blaming fat for obesity and heart disease when all along sugar was the real culprit.

One of my favourite foods is pork scratchings, all that yummy fat.....

We used to have a quiz night in my local where I lived in Donny. You paid to enter the quiz and the
winners received an attractive cash prize. For those who didn't win, the highlight of the night was
a warm pork pie served with mushy peas and mint sauce.

Some nights the landlady also used to distribute several trays of very small potatoes that had been
cooked in the oven. She then covered them in grated cheese and also provided small pieces of
butter wrapped in tin foil. After a couple of weeks, the pub was absolutely rammed with punters
who in the main came to sample the snap on offer.

In winter she started providing " Foods of the World." They included Indian, Spanish, Italian, Thai and
Chinese. It was at one of those nights, I first ever tasted what became my favourite sweet, which was
Lychees with Vanilla ice cream. When you think back our landlady was a real trailblazers, as in those
days the most exotic food being served in most pubs in the area, was scampi and chips in a basket.

My wife was telling me the other week about something similar to this. She recalls a Co-op delivery van used to turn up about once a week where she was when she was growing up. I've never seen or heard anything like it though where I grew up.

love pork pies with hp, eat them nearly everyday at work and have 2 or 3 bottles of hp placed around ;-)
potters for me and a percy is nice if i ever catch them on wombwell high st,
with red sauce is for southerners, same has with bacon or sausages.
i remember the old pie & pea van, early 80's on a thurs i think, he used to ring a bell and you'd go out with your own bowl for him to fill up
