Because everything is classified as a CV19 death, even accidents, if the patient has CV19 symptoms. I also have a gripe with comparing countries, as I do not believe every country is recording the deaths accurately, or using the same criteria (BTW, I don't mean China, NK, etc.). Even the CDC in the USA stated that only 6% of the 220K deaths due to CV19 alone; the other 94% were CV19 and other causes.
He's got a child. Under the Cummings rule that means he's allowed to make his own judgement calls and do as he pleases.
Just seen a news item about someone who was killed having broken down on a "smart motorway" and made me think of this. We accept taking away a safety net like the hard shoulder to ease congestion.
The direction and speed of travel is probably the most important statistic. The figure has more than trebled in 3 weeks and gone up 50% since last week. 16-10-2020 442 (increase 151) 09-10-2020 291 (increase 73) 02-10-2020 218 (increase 73) 25-09-2020 145
Thing is only the Highways lot wanted it various groups have been arguing to get hard shoulders back since inception.
In Wales 32 Covid-19 patients in "invasive ventilated beds" as at 16th Oct, same number as on 9th & 5th Oct. At the peak there were 164.
I agree it's crazy. Just thought it ironic how policy is at odds with the reasoning behind covid policy, or not depending on your take.

That I don't doubt and I can understand the fear it could happen and it would be too late. But at some point we will have to take that risk I think. If it is just out of caution, the price for that is high too. I hope it's the right call.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8856233/Sir-Patrick-Vallance-warns-Covid-19-never-away.html It has been clearly the case for a while but it keeps needing to be said so people don't get unrealistic hope about a vaccine. You won't die or need hospital treatment if you do catch it post vaccine. But you'll likely feel groggy for a few days or a week like when you catch flu and even with covid you won't have to self isolate.
It sounds close to capacity to me. https://news.sky.com/story/coronavi...-beds-as-tier-3-lockdown-row-deepens-12108075
I live in Denbighshire we have been in semi lockdown for 2 weeks. Being a cab driver in Conwy its affected my business alot, less than half wat i usually take. Full lockdown makes it not worth it. Pubs clubs restaurants leisure centres hotels all closed pretty much 90% of my take. So 2 weeks at home for me with no pay. Grim
The NHS said in a statement: "We are monitoring the situation with our hospital admissions, overall beds and ITU beds very, very closely. "It's not unusual for 80% to 85% of ICU beds to be in use at this time of year and our hospitals work together if there are particular pressures in any one area, to ensure the best care for patients who need the high level of support ICU provides, both for COVID and for other reasons." A source at the GMCCN told Sky News the NHS usually say they're "at capacity" when they hit 85%, not 100% of beds filled. From that article.
That’s not true at all. That’s right-wing nonsense to make it look like Trumpy is doing a good job. The problem with those numbers is that if someone has a heart condition but would have lived another 30 years usually, if they die due to Covid, they are not in the 6%. If someone develops Pneumonia as a result of Covid, they are not in the 6% because pneumonia is what killed them.
I'm talking about the figure 80-odd%. There isn't much wriggle room there with hospitalisations increasing by 50% in a week.
It's not even that mate. I think you know my position, but that 'fact' that was banded around is just total nonsense. Yes, most countries have been recording 'with covid' rather than 'of covid' so the figures aren't as accurate as they should be (although to counter that there are people who have died from Covid at home and it hasn't been recorded at all) but the 94% is a complete lie from beginning to end. The best method of judging deaths from Covid is to look at the excess deaths when the virus is at its peak. It's way above 6%. There is a very strong argument why we shouldn't when looking at the mid to long term effects of this pandemic, but in the short term that is the very best measure. I want us to reject this nanny state that is controlling our lives and for us all to take responsibility for our own actions both in looking after ourselves and others. But to do so we can't pedal lies like the one you've rightly highlighted. There is more than enough real evidence to show everything we're doing right now is wrong and to the detriment of all of us without spreading bullsh*t.
A vaccine may only lower our covid risk to an endemic and the nation is divided with how Boris and chums should go about it. So it's rather disappointing that when the opposition party have a chance to look good they ruin it by getting personal and their knickers in a twist......
