So were in the free market for a striker/more attacking options...

    Q. Who do you think was the best freebie we’ve ever signed?

Was Vaz Te a fee signing - if so i thought he did ok in i terms of impact!

McPhail and Howard were both free transfers, I think? Bobby Hassell too.

Paid mega bucks (for Barnsley, at the time) for Hignett. £1Million springs to mind

Loads of candidates for best free transfer signing, but if you mean "best unattached signing", there ain't nobody to compare with Adam Hammill.

    Very true.

Completely turned our season around, then the rest of the squad stepped up on the momentum he created.

I was there for his redebut - against York in the JPT. Michael Coulson scored that day too. It's funny what you remember.

You're right Tyke 67. Martin Bullock was supposed to be the " makeweight" in the deal,
but on seeing the ground and facilities at Aberdeen, he refused the deal he had been
offered. It meant that we had to pay a lot more for Higgy than first thought.
We eventually offloaded Bully when Blackpool signed him. Always rememember he came
back and played a blinder in the Cup, when Blackpool beat us at Oakwell.

Struggle to find frees not already mentioned. But for a pittance of a £40k bargain of a lifetime. The king himself.
Steve Daley the highest fee of that year 1979 £1.45m

    Edit
    Paul Wilkinson
    Neil Thompson
    Jovo Bosancic.

and who could forget Paul Gibbs. :) Wonder if Hells -Bells did.
