A lot of people in Barnsley are not following the simplest guidelines, i.e. Wash hands frequently, wear a mask when in the company of others, maintain social distancing protocols. This has been going on for months. It's part ,resistance to authority, "tha not telling me what to do" and part, the incompetent confused message put out by the government.

Rumours that Wath sorting office has over 20 posties off sick with COVID at the moment - we actually commented on seeing a Royal Mail delivery on Sunday in the area.

we have 8 positives plus 2 managers, 20+ isolating just in case who have worked or come into close contact with those who are positives,
it's a mess so don't complain if s62/63/64 mail is late
wombwell had 2 positives yesterday too

The situation is very difficult though; what do you suggest? All health professionals I have spoken to (wife included!) say the hospitals are very close to capacity now. Yes we have the new hospitals with additional ventilation, but we don’t have the staff.

I think there is a logical argument to letting nature run its course, letting people live normal life etc, probably what 150,000 to 500,000 deaths? On paper little damage caused to the economy but the practical consequences of that would be horrific: hospitals overwhelmed, people dying with no care and so on.....an invidious position for the government to be in.

No idea what the answer is mind you. Can’t say I agree with having my liberty taken from me.

Yeah 2 teachers at my little ones school in Wombwell have got it. Kids isolation rules are daft though. All Year 2 and year 6 kids off isolating. Parents don’t need to isolate. Siblings of kids in year 2 and year 6 to attend as normal.

Just for some balance and perspective, does anyone fancy publishing the number of cases of cancer and heart disease and strokes and alzheimer's? You know, as we're so interested in the medical conditions of fellow members of our society and like publishing figures on the ill health they're currently suffering.

I didn't know you could catch cancer, heart disease, a stroke or Alzheimer's merely by being in the same room as someone with one of said conditions.

there shouldn’t be any furlough. People shouldn’t just get on with their lives. If isolate if they want to, live life as normal if they want to. Like supertyke says people will die of COVID and they will die of other stuff. I’m happy to take the risk.

That's unfair. In his very next post he complains that the Government hasn't done enough to protect the vulnerable. Muddled thinking??

So if/when you get lung cancer, emphysema, or chronic pneumonia stroke, heart disease etc. exacerbated by smoking, will you take the 'personal choice' not to burden the NHS using up resources and money, taking up a bed or ICU. Palliative care etc. needed for someone with a chronic condition that was not self inflicted and go somewhere quiet to die? No? Thought not.
