I'd give Halme an extended run. Good in the air, sharp in front of goal and works for the team. He was used to good effect when we were desperate last season. Plenty of centre backs have been converted to decent centre forwards. Ian Marshall and Paul Warhust spring to mind and the best of them all John Charles. Doesn't seem to be much like that goes off these days whereas we were always converting wingers to full backs at one time eg Archdeacon, Broddle, Beresford.
You mean c1980, big lump up front rattling a few defenders, not scoring but taking a better player's place in the team. Hopefully we've moved on from one dimensional football. I liked Keiffer Moore but give me Ashley Fletcher any day of the week.
But leading the line for 90 minutes is different to throwing a big lad up front when we need a goal with 10 minutes left. The game has evolved so much since the days of Ian Marshall and Paul Warhurst. That's why is isn't as common these days.
But, Halme is as good as what we're going to get from the free agent market, for the money we're willing to spend. May as well work on converting him into a striker.
Me too but if it’s a centre forward that’s required as a lot on are ‘clamouring’ for, players like Fletcher and Moore ain’t to be found in the out of contract market. Personally I’d like to see Halme given a go up front. Not forced to work out but he might provide an answer in the short term
But how do we know that? A couple of decent 10 minute cameos as an emergency striker when we're chasing a game doesn't mean he could be converted to a striker. I don't think we'll get anyone decent from the free agent market either, but Aapo Halme is not the answer to our striker woes.
I see this guy is a free agent... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adama_Diomande I could’ve sworn we were linked with him once, might have been a false rumour but nevertheless he has a decent scoring record at every club he’s been barring his stint with Hull. Could be worth a punt?
How many failed transfer windows can they claim to be 'looking' at free agents before it becomes a load of hot air? Was the loan market not an option before the window shut? I find it hard to believe out of the vast number of players that must be on the spreadsheet that not one striker could be brought in.
It's all hot air. If we don't find a suitable striker in a transfer window. There is no way they will get a free agent that's suitable.
