Plenty of options now but in a 3-4-3 formation I don’t see him being one of the 2 midfielders as Styles, Mowatt and James will be preferred based on all being more box-to-box or defensive minded. Can he be fit into one of the wider options in the front 3? Either this or he’ll need to bide his time, thoughts?
It's a lot of money for someone who's going to struggle for starts with our formation and if people keep playing well.
Doesn't seem to have the pace or workrate to play in a front three. No idea where he fits in at min. Seeming like an odd signing.
He’s a great signing imo and as we’re playing games every 20 minutes or so there’s little doubt he’s going to be important to the Club. The yawning gap is still up front. Any injuries and we look very vulnerable.
James is only on loan and Mowatt is out of contract in the summer and we've got his replacement in early - perhaps?
The talent we have in central midfield is a bit frightening if you're a Barnsley fan. It's bloody good. Our new manager assessed them in training for the two days he's had them and picked Mowatt and Styles. I would imagine if he thought James was fully fit, it would have been James and one of the former. It's up to Palmer and Kane to show in training what these three did. What a dilemma to have. We've got genuine talent here. Feels good doesn't it?
I think you've done a 2+2=5 It's very early days and your overthinking it . Plenty of twists and turns to come and I'm sure Kane will show his qualities. Just enjoy the win.
Based on fact we have mowatt, Palmer, James and Styles who all look to be fighting for a start in CM at min. And we might have been better off spending that money on a striker or wide player based on the formation we are now playing. Nothing against Kane, he looks a decent player. But seems odd in a sense that it didn't seem a priority position. Unless of course we don't think James will extend and mowatt won't sign.
We obviously tried and failed to sign a striker, Kane signed before James who's only on loan and not played a lot of football for a few years, Mowatt seems to be raising his game because it's his position to lose and also in his interests to play well regarding his next contract. Plenty of twists and turns to come, I can't see us winning all our remaining games 3-0 and nobody getting injured.
I don't really argue with any of that. But I still think it is a slightly odd signing considering the amount we paid and the fact that for me he is currently our fifth choice CM. Not wanting to make a big issue out of it, just a passing comment. Perhaps if styles plays on the left (as he did effectively today) we may see more of Kane.
At the moment, we've only got Matty until January, so if his loan can't be extended, Kane could well come to the fore. With regards to his future, over the next few months I would think Matty will be faced with making a big decision. He is still only 29 years old, but unfortunately his career at Leicester City looks to have been plagued by serious injury. During the 2014/15 season ,he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, which caused him to miss the whole of the 2015/16 campaign. From the start of the 2016/17 season, he has therefore found it increasingly difficult to establish a place in the Foxes starting eleven and in the main, has had to be content playing for their Under 23's. As good as he is, it looks unlikely that he's going to dislodge the teams current midfielders that appear to be the preferred regular starters in Brendan Rodgers matchday squads. Matty James is the type of player that at Championship level, inspires other players around him and as someone on the BBS has said, if at the end of the day, he ultimately decides that his future lies elsewhere, it could be an opportune moment for Dane to sit down with him to map out an opportunity for him to remain at Oakwell that once he hangs up his boots could see him play an important role within our Coaching set up. The sticking point of course as usual, is likely to be money, but if we are to ever establish ourselves in the Championship, at some future point, we've surely got to show some real ambition.
On around £32k at Leicester, next move likely to be his last decent payday, would love to be proven wrong but we’re too far apart IMO, will end up somewhere like WBA.
If I was in his boots with his injury history and his own admission of nearly calling it a day I'd be saying to bsly look il take a drop in wages and become a player coach....if you will have me...his calmness and absolute class is bound to rub off ...he would be a great asset to us ....he was head and shoulders above them all tonight
I see your point, but personally I've been fuming at the board for not replacing Moore for over a year now. If Kane gets a few good games between now and Xmas and then Mowatt goes in January then fair enough as far as I'm concerned. Losing our best players is always annoying, but I accept that it'll happen. All I want is for us to make it look more like a plan than just grabbing an unexpected windfall whenever the likes of Stoke come knocking. If that means holding surplus players for half a season then it's fine by me. I wish we'd done it last year. If Mowatt doesn't go then there'll be a decision to make next year, but I'll take that over this or last summer all day long.
