We don't 'alf have a player here. I don't think our formations/play style have suited him in every game this year, but the lad has some serious talent. He can turn on a sixpence, and he seems to have a good passing range on him as well. I really hope the new gaffer can get the best out of him. I rate him as much as I rated Hourihane in his first season here.
I was about to post something similar. Before the match I was unsure of the wisdom of putting him straight back into the side after injury, especially after three very solid performances. I was wrong. He was absolutely everywhere tonight. Looks equally adept in central midfield or at left back. Exciting going forward, yet never shirks his defensive responsibilities. What a talent. And yes, he has the potential to be at least as good as Hourihane.
Well said both of you! I agree what a talent Styles is. We have a wealth of talent at this club now and it's time for Valerian to get the best out of them. I'm sure he will.
I love how he wins the ball back in the middle of the pitch to set up new attacks. Reyt little laiker
Yesterday, his speed also showed up. Some of his runs were superb. Hes also not afraid to put his head in were it hurts.
Just needs to be able to pop the ball into the net a few times from 30 yards out. Then he'll be a CH.
Yeah he should adopt a pass and shoot mentality. I'll thread Simoes in if he scores I'll thread him through again. If he misses I'll go myself next time.
Mentioned this a few times. It's something that Hourihane didn't really add to his game until he was 23. Styles is a very mature player for his age. If he finds his shooting boots, he's got the potential to be the best midfielder in the Championship.
Creates the interesting dilemma that when both him and James are fit, Mowatt might struggle to get into this formation regularly.
Hehe SD. I haven't got a clue what you're on about but maybe the pies have gone to your head. Too much ale in the steak and ale ?
Styles has real quality, Simoes needs to become alot stronger in possession easily knocked off the ball, he does offer some pace and makes good runs although not a first name on the teamsheet as I say Styles should be.
Simoes is in a similar place to Styles in our promotion season. He was stand out in the U23s, had good spells when he's played and I think he'll do well for us given time.
I thoroughly enjoy watching this young lad play. But, then again, we have a number of youngsters at the moment who I can say that about. Younger players have a tendency to struggle at first with consistency, so when any of them are struggling for a bit of form, I'll always cut them a bit of slack, show patience and happily sing their praises when they turn it on.
Young Callum is a class act, of that there is no doubt. His pass that led to the penalty was sublime. Let's hope that in the coming months under our new coach and his team, his self confidence can increase, which hopefully will then lead to him chancing his arm with a few attempts at goal, instead of passing the ball to other players.
