1) Second tier idiots like Shapps and Raab will be sent out to initially soften the message that 4 weeks might not be 4 weeks. 2) Deaths will keep rising a bit for at least a few weeks as they will obviously lag cases and even if the measures make any difference - doubtful - it will take time for them to fall. 3) Press will gleefully report any students having any sort of parties and people will extrapolate that to mean we're all having wild orgies and gangbangs and that it's the publics fault we're having more lockdowns 4) Press, teachers and unions will ramp up pressure to close schools 5) One week before lockdown is due to end they'll announce schools will close two weeks early for Christmas and not return till January 11th, which will be the new end date of Lockdown 2. All the measures that started on 6th November will be extended till then, with maybe some minor tweaks. 6) You'll be allowed to have Christmas dinner along with one other household, provided distancing is maintained, you all wear masks, etc etc etc. Some ridiculous information video will be released about disinfecting your toilet after your guests have had a shat, etc. 7) We'll revert to regional tiers on 11th January.
Add 8) Most of the North of England will be left with the same restrictions while everyone else gets some release.
That is more or less word for word what I said in a Zoom call with the in laws yesterday. Think that is on the money.
I wonder how many key workers will be killed off before they admit that the students are spreading the virus.
The Tories came up with the perfect plan to spread the Virus. 1 First pack the places a large number of students are likely to be working during the summer = Augusts ludicrous eat out to help out scheme. 2 send all the students back to uni allow things like freshers week to happen with restrictions in place 3 Ignore sage advice to lockdown for two weeks in September. 4 wait for the **** to hit the fan
What won't happen : Universities & care homes which are pushing new cases will be dealt with as bluntly as 'non essential' retail and hospitality - all of whom invested heavily in covid safe measures on the back of nearly zero revenue The thresholds of the PCR test will be looked at. Local & national politicians & 'leaders' take at least a 20% reduction in income for the duration.
It might not just be students. The lockdowns in North Wales included Flintshire, Debighshire and Conwy before Bangor - the only one of those areas with a university (Wrexham did earlier but also borders Chester/Cheshire West). Similarly, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly in South Wales don't have universities. In England, Brighton, Bristol and Bournemouth didn't leave Tier 1 - despite having large students populations. Not saying they weren't a factor, but why would Bristol with ~60000 students or Brighton with ~40000 stay in Tier 1 until the national lockdown started, when Sheffield with ~60000 and Huddersfield with ~16000 students go into Tier 3?
Boris won't do that because the last thing he wants is a damaging lockdown for the whole country for weeks on end. Oh wait....
On Friday a family friend was taken from the care home in which he resides to hospital suffering pneumonia. He was tested for Covid-19 and returned a positive result. The following day he was returned to the care home. What chance has anyone got when they're doing this?
It was ridiculously negligent that it was seeded into care homes like this in the first wave. I genuinely don't have adequate words to describe it happening a second time.
The rules for Thanksgiving in California. 1) No more than three households 2) No longer than two hours total 3) No singing 4) Guests must stay outside I've even read that one county in LA has gone one step further and said you have to wear masks in between bites of food. I can see something similar here for Christmas.
Oh and by Thursday we will have Trump back in for another term and Farage back on the scene. So f.cuking bleak.
The lowest number of infections for a fortnight now regional tiered lockdown is starting to show an affect. I still expect the national lockdown to be voted through though.
It isn't much different to last Monday's figure - 18,950 compared to 19,790. Sunday and Monday's figures are always lower...as you well know.
