It wasn't a great watch at all - the lack of depth in our squad, specifically up front was there for all to see. But then we all knew that already. I'd have taken 6 points from the 3 games though if you'd have offered them last Tuesday
It wasn't a great performance and I don't think anybody really covered themselves with any credit at all but.... We aren't going to win every game, no football team can do that. Let's learn from the mistakes and move on. Valerien Ismael landed in the country on Saturday 24th October. Since then we've had 4 games of football. Valerien, the coaching staff and the players must have had at best 4 or 5 days training together. In that time we've gained 7 points. We had 4 regular first team players out last night due to the schedule and we've got another game in 3 days time. We need to let VI bed in, let him have the time to get the players used to the new system(s) and let the players recover from injury imho. This will be better achieved during the international break when they've got 2 weeks off from playing games.
Didn't see the game or listen to the commentary as I was out playing badminton last night. By all accounts, it was a bad result and performance which could be accounted for by injuries and by the relative youth of the squad. Whatever, they will get over it and will be up for the next game, we've seen that before and we'll see it again. Come On You Reds!!!
Your right Kev, I've always said I don't like this new manager bounce theory, a new manager can't learn anything from a team that wins it's first few game swhen he comes in, he'll learn a lot more about the team in general and individual players in particular from abject performances like last night. If he is able/allowed to do anything about it remains to be seen.
What can be learned from last night? Frieser isn't a wing back - but that was changed. We were missing some key players. Cardiff have a much bigger budget than we do. They have much bigger players. We didn't get the blow of the ref's whistle. We looked short of energy and tired Positives: Jack Walton kept the score down with some good saves. It was a better second half, but Cardiff allowed us more of the ball knowing that we didn't look likely to hurt them. No point in dwelling on it. Learn what can be learned and do what can be done before Saturday.
But the guy had only been in the job for a couple of weeks and still is getting to know his players. He will have worked out after last night more but the formation which works the players and vice versa. Hopefully with a full for squad we can get something at Derby before the internation break which will enable him to spend more time on the training pitch than he has been allowed with the sat/Tues schedule.
You missed out: Defending for their first goal, The challenge that led to their penalty. I'm sure I could think of a few more as well, but onward to Saturday's game we go
I've just looked at the league table after last nights results we stay out of the bottom three going into the international break.
We tend to throw in a poor performance or two in prior to International Breaks, the breaks seem to give the young uns time to recharge and the manager more time to work on things plus players recovering from injuries get that extra time to do so. The press and going for the full 90 mins plus must tek its toll, playing twice a week over a period of time. My ifollow coverage totalled 25 mins of the game but from what I saw it wasn`t good.
The way we started the season I'm reasonably happy with that. A result on Saturday would give us all a boost.
