Superunknown was one of the first albums I ever bought. I wore it out on my walkman! Was devastated when he killed himself.
Same here, honestly knocked the stuffing out of me. I've suffered with mental health in the last 10 years, was at his point in 2010. I always play his own stuff, soundgarden and Audioslave if I start getting a bit low since his death. Just to remind me that its normal and the driving base on most of the tracks bring me out fighting. One of the greats, was always underrated by the mainstream. When he did the Bond track it was amazing how many folk didn't know who he was.
Saw Audioslave at Manchester Arena, fantastic gig. It was like 3 in 1 as they played Soundgarden and RATM songs as well as their own. What a voice he had, very sad loss to the world
Wasn't there also something about the main riff from Nirvana's "Come As You Are" being based on Killing Joke's "Eighties"? I forget the details.
Yep, I don't think Killing Joke were too happy about it! They threatened legal action but didn't go through with it I don't think.
I have to admit, I was one of those people that had never heard of him, but truly loved the Bond theme to Casino Royale. It really got me into music again, Cornell was so much better than the other mainstream music out at that time. A true artiste, I too was gutted and a sad loss
I think from memory he was pissed off that they wouldn't let them play live so he just messed about instead in protest.
For every Beatles there was a Kinks. For every Kinks there was a Rolling Stones. For every Rolling Stones there was a Who. Etc. Etc. Remarkably creative decade, that will never come close to being repeated or bettered. In my opinion.
My reference is to the TOTP researcher who put up a still of a famous Scottish darts player rather than a famous American soul singer. Easy mistake to make i imagine.
Nirvana were managed to some extent by Anton - at least in the run-up to the release of Teen Spirit - who is/was one of the London Tykes iirc. My biggest musical regret is not being able to get the night off work to go and see them play at the Hallamshire Hotel in October 89 *supporting* Tad and Mudhoney. One of my mates from uni had a ticket, but forgot about it. The Killing Joke "Jaz to Iceland" adventure was the probably the result of too many drugs They are still recording and playing now in the original line-up. Unfortunately, the replacement bassist Paul Raven died of a heart attack in 2007 but Youth is back in the band. Jaz Coleman spent the early part of lockdown releasing two jerk pies and a "hot sauce", which is both expensive and probably dangerous to the digestive system. https://rocknloadmag.com/news/killi...and-launches-2-jerk-pies-the-joker-hot-sauce/
When minor celebs used to present TOTP in the 90s. Chris Eubank having to say "At six it's Suggs with Cecillia"
As opposed to minor celeb DJs? I always thought there was something slightly creepy about the way all the presenters had to surrounded by a fawning entourage of 15 year old girls.
Family, that's going back a bit. I have their greatest hits album on vinyl with not means of playing it. I know we both attended WGS as it was. I my sixth form days, on Friday nights we used to congregate in the New Inn. I used to invest a tanner playing "No Mules Fool", a minor hit of theirs on the old juke box. Happy days.
