How does this work? I went to IKEA to collect a order, as a non essential shop they are still allowed to offer click and collect. However as I drove down the M1 the overhead signs were telling me only to travel if its essential.
Are non essential shops allowed to offer click and collect but we shouldn't go?

Correct. It's a none essential journey so you shouldn't make it. They can offer the service you just aren't actually allowed to use it.

So if I offered to host a party would be the fault of those that turned up for making the journey?
The mind boggles at the state of these restrictions.

You'll notice that the restrictions are designed in favour of the rich

Hmm but is it actually law or just recommend that you do not make unnecessary journeys?

The Entertainer in the Alhambra was doing click and collect last week. The shutters were mostly closed. Customers being handed items outside the store. ?
Click and collect is still viable through a lot of non essential stores. Did you pick up the item.? some items may be deemed essential. Beds etc. One of the quirks of the advice. Don’t think you’d break any laws. Not sure how the Entertainer is viewed essential.

I assume you're being sarcastic here, otherwise it's incorrect. Essential travel includes travel to purchase goods or services from any business that is allowed to remain open.

Not to worry in five weeks time you and another 29 of your closest can go for a Boxing Day hunt as that's completely fine.

On the subject of what is essential travel, the club are asking fans to go to Oakwell to put out flags in the Ponty. That's not an essential journey at all, I wonder if anyone has been?

You are if you live in walking distance I think. ‘Travel’ tends to mean via a vehicle rather than your daily exercise.

Not true, The Quorn and The Cottesmore Hunts round here have cancelled their boxing day meets as they cannot guarantee social distancing due to the large crowds they attract. Doesn't mean they're not currently having small undercover jaunts to keep their hand in.

    From the 5/11 guidance...

    "11. Travel
If you live in England, you must stay at home and avoid travel in the UK or overseas, unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons. If you need to travel you should look to reduce the number of journeys if possible.

However you can and should still travel for a number of reasons, including:

    • travelling to work where you cannot work from home
    • travelling to education and for caring responsibilities
    • to visit those in your support bubble - or your childcare bubble for childcare
    • hospital, GP and other medical appointments or visits where you have had an accident or are concerned about your health
    • to buy goods or services from premises that are open, including essential retail
    • to spend time or exercise outdoors - this should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)
    • attending the care and exercise of a pet, or veterinary services
If you need to travel we encourage you to walk or cycle where possible, and to plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport. This will allow you to practise social distancing while you travel."

Not worried as such most people just seem to have adopted there own approach on it. More perplexed as I drove back reading the signs.

You have young kids.. Toys are essential

Its big coat weather. Next Primark etc are all essential.

You struggle with mindfulness and ruminate into downward circles and your escapism is reading. Books are essential.

Finding somewhere to sit down have a coffee and get warm after spending an hour queuing for the bank. Coffee shops are essential.

    Etc .

Joking aside. Any Clothes are essential. All of the above you’ve quoted are essential to some folk, But found it strange. How some premises have worked round the system and others of the like haven’t. Eg Cafes shut. Pubs doing takeaways.
