The term snowflake comes from the saying that all snowflakes are unique. aka. all people are unique - it's a term that was used originally to accept - but later to deride, people that don't conform to societal norms "They're a special snowflake" - it was appropriated by the right wing idiots to be anybody that gets annoyed about racism, homophobia etc.

the word snowflake actually dates back to World War II, when it was used by Nazi soldiers to refer to the human remains of people who were incinerated in crematoriums, maybe why it is used by the far right, not sure for certain though

    From a slang dictionary.

    Snowflake
is a 2010s derogatory slang term for a person, implying that they have an inflated sense of uniqueness, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or are overly-emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions.

In summary, a snowflake is simply a decent person who refuses to tolerate racists, sexists, homophobes and xenophobes.

I read somewhere recently that it was originally used in America against redneck types whom seem to have adopted it in the opposite direction now. About as original as responding to “Dee dah” with “dingles” to then?!

It's aimed as an insult to allege the person standing up against hate is actually just easily offended. It's pretty pitiful as insults go, but hey, its part of a society eager to halt inclusivity.

In Missouri in the early 1860s, a 'snowflake' was a person who was opposed to the abolition of slavery—the implication of the name being that such people valued white people over black people. This use seems not to have endured.
