I was never convinced the EFL would give us all the away games, especially with Sky complicating the position. I reckon last season we only got home and away games for the 9 post-lockdown games, because it was a way to minimise refunds - and even then, our club went out on a limb and offered refunds in addition to access to the remaining games. People will take stock of their own position and judge accordingly. I don't have Sky. I wouldn't normally watch any away games, unless I'm willing to pay extra for them - and I'm not. A extra ton and a half? Have you adjusted that to factor in the reduced ST price or does that not count? Overall I'm happy. Well, as happy as I can be under the circumstances, I know we'd all rather be watching live games, but it is what it is. I'm not sure what else the club could have done this season. I don't for one minute think they've conned anyone, though.
Maybe if they improved iplayer they,d have more success, i,ve paid for the last 4 games and couldn,t even get 2 of them, ifollow is extremely poor and it needs addressing..
There's no doubt that looking at the number of illegal stream views and equating that to lost revenue is a futile exercise in self torment. Being overseas I was able to buy the Barnsley video season ticket covering home and away matches. So there I am, all paid up and above board. For the record, iFollow has been flaky and I've missed a few goals but generally I can get it working on one of the browsers (it seems to prefer Firefox to Edge I find). But I bet there are plenty who've had a cheeky look at hesgoals streams to see what standard the Belgian league is or whatever. There is no way people are going to pay full price for such an obscure stream*. Yet there could well be someone sat in Belgium thinking their fans are opting not to pay their club. Nah, it's just some bored buffoon from overseas having a one off nosey. *or maybe there could be an agreement between clubs/leagues to allow really cheap access to matches for fans subscribed to a qualifying club's plan. I'd pay a couple of quid to watch matches from around the leagues. No more than a couple of quid mind, but that's a couple of quid more than they're receiving at the moment.
It’s a slippery slope. The music business were massively against piracy when streaming became a thing. Then once they realised how to Monetise it via apple, Spotify etc it took off, to massive detriment of the actual people making the music however. Very few records are sold now, very few artists have recording contracts of any note. Bands have to charge sky high ticket prices for gigs and push merchandise to make a living. i don’t know if football will end up down this road, I follow protects the local market by only allowing those foreign to watch all games, with a vpn however it’s worthless. Do they chalk it off and sell football online for a few quid to watch at home or do they keep up the charade to ensure fans attend the stadium on a Saturday still? The music industry, whilst slightly different i know gambled with piracy and won, but then massively lost.
I would guess, given the issues people report about it, the issue is not cost but ifollow just doesn’t have the capability of streaming for home and away fans from a technical aspect.
Absolutely no idea what folk who have problems with iFollow are doing. I have never had a problem accessing and ever since the first season when it was a bit jumpy it has streamed perfectly on the highest HD setting.
I have the top fibre with broadband via virgin and the ifollow coverage is shocking, it seems that its a bit hit and miss, but to be honest, when your paying £10 per game there shouldn,t be any misses, its so frustrating when your looking forward to the game and all you get is constant buffering or nothing but a spinning circle on screen...
Fair enough. I did make the point about having the money, however scarce that may be. In the past you used to be able to get in for the last 40 minutes of games for free, as the gates were left open in the 70's. Same principle.
Using a VPN service isn't illegal in the UK if it is used within legal guidelines. You can own a VPN subscription and make use of it to add extra security to your own browsing at home or on the move. ... Using a VPN to get around such geo-restrictions is illegal and so it is important never to do so. Of course you are never likely to get caught or prosecuted. It's left to your conscience really. If you can't afford it...it's understandable.
After experiencing if for free this season there is no way on earth I would pay £10 per game in the future- the quality is appalling. It could have been a decent advert for the service as if it was any good I’d have been tempted for some away games in the future when things are back to normal.
