Last night I watched Alaves vs Valencia, the 2nd Valencia goal went to VAR to check for offside, his arm was offside but goal was given, in the Premier League that would have been ruled out, is it different rules in premier league or are the referees not sure what is offside or not?

Your guess is as good as anyone's .....

I thought it was only a 'goal scoring' part of your body now that makes you offside.......

Listenening to Talksport yesterday and they revealed there's been 174 rule changes in the last 4 seasons!!!! Someone out there is coining it in for making **** up and justifying a living.

I do agree the Leeds one was harsh, but the rules aren't different.

There's a line used as the cut off, of where the illegal part of the body ends and the legal goalscoring part begins. I believe in the PL, that's where the armpit starts. The tech determined that a miniscule part of Bamford's armpit was in an onside position. I haven't seen the one you're referring to, but I imagine there's Less of the arm in an offside position, which would determine someone as onside.

Crazy I know, and excuse the pun, but they've to draw the line somewhere.

Calvert-Lewin's hand was offside for his 2nd goal against Fulham but the goal was allowed to stand . There was a hand ball by a Leeds defender and a Liverpool defender which were waved yet I've seen exactly the same given as a penalty. I think in the Premier league it depends more on who's in the VAR box

Isn’t it now the ‘sleeve’, above the elbow that they’re now using for offside calls? Ie your hand/forearm can’t be the difference between being offside/onside, but above your elbow can. Sure I heard that when Bamford’s goal was disallowed.

It's like Pool is it two shots or one if you're on the black. The "interpretation" of the rule should be agreed before hand. A bit like what Lee Johnson did with Bristol City last season. If a player goes down we won't kick it out and won't expect you to either.

There hasn't been much of that since games restarted after lockdown, or am I imagine it?

I don't think there has because I don't think the games have the same intensity.

You reckon that players aren't playing with the same intensity and fouling others because there's no crowds? Interesting thought really. I wonder if the fact that there's crowds at football matches affect the players that much? (I know they do.... but to not be fouling with the same intensity - Dunno really). Like I say it's an interesting thought

I'd love to see stats for sprint speed etc too.

All that data is captured in the players' "sports bra" isn't it, along with loads of other data. Would be interesting to see what differences there are, but we're unlikely to be privileged to see it lol :)

For me the players fight or flight response isn't triggered in empty stadia.

Correct, that's one of the things it cannot capture. I wonder if there'll ever come a time when something can detect how much adrenaline is coursing through the veins?
