Woodrow climbing the all time top scorers list

On a slightly different topic, considering the age of most of our players do we think we will see anyone hang around long enough to get a testimonial or notch a serious amount of appearances?? I know it is extremely unlikely in the current football setup but it would be nice to have a bfc legend in 10 years time from the current group.

 

Brilliant, I knew it would be before my time, but I was interested to know nonetheless.

 

I doubt it. The game has changed a huge amount and these days it seems loyal for a player to see a whole contract through without going elsewhere. I think back to the Clarke/Machin years and we had so many players who clocked up over 200 games. Thomas, Futcher, O'Connell, Baker, Fleming, Archdeacon, Taggart, Agnew.

If you look since then we've only had, what, Watson, Morgan, Redfearn, Eaden, Hassell and Steele? Can't think of any others

 

Great stat. No doubt that he's our best striker since Ashley Ward and has been for ages. It was great news when he signed his new contract and let's hope we have him here for years to come and in 20-30 years time he's doing an audience with appearances as a club legend talking about his career with us in the same way many of our former players have done in the past.

If someone keeps notching 15-20 goals a season in the Championship bigger clubs will come calling. That's why I can't see anybody getting much more than 60 goals for us.

 

And yet towards the end of last season, there were many who were slating him and saying he was crap. Just imagine how many more he might have scored if Voldemort hadn’t played him in midfield for so long.

And to think Mel tried to play him as a holding midfielder at first! Think he only got something silly like 4 in his first season.

 

He got 4 league goals in each of his first two seasons under Machin.

 

Mowatt has just reached 125 apps in all comps. Should pass 150 this season. Would have had more if we’d not binned him off to Oxford for a year.

Good strikers are always in demand. Perhaps what we need are not "good" players, but a team of average players - who play together well but aren't quite good enough for a big club to open the chequebook. Although the entire situation around transfers is likely to be fluid for the next few seasons with clubs not having the money to splash the same cash.

 

True, but still less than 200 either way.
