Quote. From an article. Pele once described Belfast boy Best as "the greatest footballer in the world", Who am I to argue with the great man. He was right btw.
There's a documentary somewhere Tomi where the camera's followed him in his daily life, he came across as aloof, corrupt, paranoid, spiteful, of very low intelligence, vain, sociopathic and never once in the entire piece did he say he'd made mistakes within the game or in life in general, it was always somebody else to blame. I'm not denying the mans talent, that was always evident, but, as a man, and I use the word 'man' lightly, he was as low as low could possibly be.
Got slagged on here once cos ah sed a wudnt cross the street to see the fillm about him..cos he was a cheat who made excuses for cheating..my opinion ant changed...
Great footballer. If he'd have been English and done the hand of God his harshest critics over here would probably be his biggest fans instead. Such is football. Sounds like he was a **** off the pitch, but supremely talented on it.
