How do you propose to speed up the eradication of only the third virus in the history of modern medicine?
The Bars in the main military base down the Falkland Islands used to stay closed until evening. however each squadron/unit had their own bar until a particular harsh CO closed them all. however all was not lost, a cafe called renokies on the base had a alcohol license and was open all day. Only 1 rule, to drink you had to eat 1 slice of toast and 15 pints please landlord. There we sat all day, if a red cap walked in everyone grabbed a manky bit of toast or a chip from the bowl that had been sat there for 5 hours! The killjoys eventually closed that I heard a few years after I left
we were talking with someone in hospitality, who say it was brought in because the good old public were taking the piss , leaving a couple of chops on their plate and hanging about ages, drinking fair enough but leaving the owners vulnerable
Do they? Could you please point me to any member of the public at all that supports this ridiculous rule?
I’d say it will and what these clowns do makes no sense, but people will abuse it and have mass gatherings, they should have just said you can go see close family.
it sounds mental but I get the point. it's obviously there to stop people ordering 10 pints with a burger
I know plenty who come in our local just for a couple of drinks (driving, dinners on, out with the dog etc). If they come in under T2 rules they will have to have a meal which means they are in longer and thus exposing themselves to the virus more(if anyone in there has it....there were no cases that required tracing as far as I know while they were open). Does the virus avoid you if you are eating? I'm well protected if it does
We ordered our "substantial meal" and asked for it to be brought up an hour and a half later when the pub was open.
anybody looking at this thread would know why we struggle to cope with this fking virus, the rules might be ridiculous, but to some extent they have to be because instead of thinking of the consequences many folk just think of ways round them. same with Christmas, there were loads of folk moaning about how they would miss out, now others ar moaning because they won't and now its being used by some as an excuse for moronic behaviour. that's not a pro goverment rant btw its whats happening and its pissing off many who are tasking this thing seriously
Went out just before the new lockdown and landlord explained this as part of the rules - he just laughed and shook his head
If I was a pub owner I'd be introducing a slow cooked stew on the specials board with a very clear warning to punters that it takes 2 hours to prepare. I wouldnt want them ordering it and not realising how long they'd have to wait.
I see both sides. Obviously there’s no perfect set of guidelines. It’s all a bit $hit, I’m just saying I understand why there are rules in place, to try and stop Darren and Karen using a loophole to get hammered...which would definitely happen.
I honestly don’t know. Is the theory that the more pissed up people get, the louder they are, the less likely they are to observe social distancing, and the more likely they are to shout and transmit? Also I guess if you have everybody doing the same, it increases risk exponentially....I think. Unfortunately there isn’t a magic set of rules that works perfectly for everyone. It’s a $hit situation all round.
'Ang on lads... I've got an idea!! Have chess clock on the table... The waiter starts it when your food arrives and stops it when you have emptied your plate or finished the course. Start it again when the the plates have been removed and the next course arrives. You have an hour of actual 'eating and drinking time'. This means whether service is fast or slow you all have the same amount of time to actually eat the food. Sounds daft but is actually practical it also enable restaurants to book more than one 'sitting' since they know roughly how long a table will be occupied which is important as they have to restrict the number of covers due to social distancing requirements and numbers of people allowed at each table. Snooping enforcement officers can see how long someone has spent at the table so even if they are sitting with a post dinner drink, so long as they are within their allotted time then there is no problem. An hour is perfectly adequate amount of time for a leisurely three course meal followed by coffee and drink if you only count the time spent eating and drinking and exclude the time spent ordering from the menu, and waiting for service between courses.
