Its terrible. Whom ever u want to win in prem. All fans love goals, lets cancel a **** load of em as a pubic hair is offside
Not really killing the game tho is it? In the same way that the ref making a complete howler (see reds v Brentfotrd) isn't killing the game.
In fact in this case I'd say it isn't VAR at fault, it's the dickheads and rules that do not respect the spirit of offside and benefit of doubt to the attacker.
Yeah, it is a bit silly. I think VAR is a good thing in general, even though I was against it at first, but it's the people that apply these rules that are to blame. Perhaps they should lower the resolution of their VAR cameras, so that they can't zoom in and check if there's a hair of the attacking player hanging offside.
Or have a margin of error like Hawkeye in cricket. There's half a ball width margin of error built in to the system.
What happened to the idea that if you were level you are onside and giving the attacker the benefit of the doubt. I can’t believe how badly VAR is applied in the premiership. It’s almost as if they did it deliberately to generate media coverage. There is no such thing as bad publicity etc.
Problem is that VAR doesn’t allow for ‘being level’, because it’s impossible to be fully level at a micro scale and VAR apparently can see this. It needs an inch of tolerance.
Yes, that's an excellent idea, and the game might be more entertaining that way. They wouldn't have to call it "margin of error" though - something like "margin of nitpicking" would be more appropriate.
If the rules say that the attacking player can't be a single inch in an offside position, and the VAR system can clearly display that that is the case, then you can't blame the referees or the VAR team for following these rules. I recommend that the VAR teams would be required to use old VHS home video recorders, so that they couldn't take advantage of super slow motions from every possible angle with a 1000x zoom-in.
I agree, but the previous poster was talking about having some tolerance, not zooming in to the minutest millimetre to seek an offside decision. The tolerance has to come from the officials, if they have to study it at length for over 2 minutes - it isn't offside
100 percent cheating is happening in the top flight football. Its no conspiracy. Just look at some of the decisions that go man uniteds way. I've never seen anything like it. Defund the Premier league!
When they introduced VAR, did someone think 'yeah, this is what supporters want to see - offside decisions measured by the millimetre'. They could not have got the implementation more wrong. If the decision can't be made in 20 seconds then there should be no decision made.
if we had it years ago the hand of God decision would have changed our game with Argentina. Also that goal that was not given by the Lampard strike which was at least 3 foot over would have changed that game. On the down side that goal for England in 1966 could have changed that one too. Sometimes VAR seems harsh, but it needs tweeking up. The footballing world needs to talk to the Rugby, cricket, tennis and the various USA big sports.... it seems to work seemlessly in those areas.
Don't really mind the offside as in theory it should be consistent for all teams. Did anyone see the Wolves player get booked for diving the other day? On Replays a clear pen but VAR doesn't overturn it.
I can't watch live Premier League football anymore. That's down to VAR. The breaks in play just make it so dull to the point where it's unwatchable. Like gridiron football. Has that conquered the world? Of course not, it's crap, for enthusiasts only, yet the real game is trying to emulate it. The howler in the Brentford game was pretty awful, but the action didn't stop, the game continued. From what I've seen, VAR still gets plenty of things wrong, but it gets them wrong plus a stoppage in play. A fast action game has been reduced to staccato and the decisions are still wrong. I can't see any benefit. Getting things wrong I can handle, I'm a Barnsley fan, our players do it perpetually, far more often than the referee, but slowing down a game that was so compelling because of the frenetic pace is genuinely killing it. I'm not the only one who has turned away. Far from it. If this is introduced to Barnsley games, I'll find something else to do. I like Janie Jones, I'm not that bothered about Four Seasons or The Nutcracker.
