Watched that hand of God programme from 2016, was on ITV last night. In the build up to his wonder goal one of the Argentinians took out Hoddle after the ball had gone. A foul then and a foul today England should have had a free kick stopping that goal from happening. Mindst thi, if Lineker had scored his header from a yard or so out for the equaliser, who knows what would have happened.
Great player but for me the goal wasn,t as good as the defending was bad, it was disgraceful, thought peter reid was out for a sunday morning jog with him, much prefer Dalian atkinsons solo goal v wimbledon...
I sort of agree with that - it is of course a spectacular goal despite of the somewhat careless defending (or maybe Maradona just made it look so easy?), but somewhere in the world you probably get to see just as beautiful goals every month. HOWEVER, just like always when it comes to these "goal of the season" or "best goal of all time" polls, I suppose you have to take the circumstances of the goal in account. Maradona scored his winning goal in front of the whole world in a huge World Cup semi-final game, so that alone gives it so many extra points that even if Dalian Atkinson had run around the whole pitch with the ball while dribbling past the whole Wimbledon team, Maradona's goal still would win these polls because the circumstances were pretty much perfect. It's still not even my personal favourite World Cup goal though. My choice is probably Giovanni van Bronckhorst's long range effort against Uruguay in 2010, also a WC semi-final coincidentally: I just love Hammill-esque long range shots like that! As for the best goal ever, I have absolutely no idea what my choice would be...
Maradona's goals in the semi final of a World Cup were OK, I guess, but weren't world class. If you're thinking about the goals he scored against England - that was a quarter final 1986
Oops, my mistake! Another memorable goal that comes to my mind is Bergkamp's wonder tap-in ( ) from the 1998 World Cup. It's just one second of amazing skill, but that first touch and the following little dribble is heavenly. It gets extra points for being a winning goal and a very late one at that, if I remember correctly. Gotta love that Dutch commentator too!
debatable that Helen good footballer maybe top bloke not even close. Such as Pele no problem at all but ........
Drug cheat that was never involved in Englush Football. A minute silence for him is the perfect time for a chin wag.
Maradona has been residing in the heads of England fans for the last 34 years though, so during this one minute of silence it would have been a good idea to take a deep breath, and let El Diego fly away. Seriously though, I think there'll be a minute's silence and memorials all over the world when Pele passes away, so I don't find this so odd. Both are legends of the highest order in football, whether you like the players or not.
Just been on the news, Maradonas doctor being investigated for manslaughter and a search of his premises is being conducted looking for evidence to support the charge.
Is that right? I thought it was just a routine search on request of the family, to see if there is any basis for negligence?
