I read somewhere if we got a point against Rotherham it would be record for December. Not sure if for every month though.
You are right , since records began 18 points is our best ever December return & if you consider the xmas fixture turn around in games , then it is a great achievement by the lads
Interestingly, in the last 3 December's combined, we've won 12, drawn 5 and lost 4 in all competitions. We actually lost more games this December, than we did in the previous 2.
This 18 points thing. Is it just since we went to 3 pts for a win or has it been adjusted to take the 100 or so years of 2 points for a win into account?
It's a record for us for December, yes. April 1979, we had 6 wins and either 1 or 2 draws (from memory, have to check history books later) when we had to play 10 games that month due to the postponements. So 3 points for a win, pro rata would have been 19 or 20 points. There was also a similar month in the 50s when we did something like this as well. Again I'll check the books later
A lot of credit has to go to the boys out on the field for amassing the number of points that they have, but let's not overlook the massive contribution from our coaching team. There seems to be a new vibrancy around the squad with each player showing new levels of authority and confidence when in possession. They appear to be going out to win every time they cross the white line and in reading some of the recent posts on the board, that expectation is now starting to rub off on us fans. Long may it continue because for one, I grew tired of us fighting to stay in the Championship.
Best monthly hauls points wise (3 points for a win pro rata) April 1979: 10 games, 6 wins, 1 draw, 3 defeats = 19 points (in 3 points for a win pro rata) April 1955: 9 games, 7 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat = 22 points (in 3 points for a win pro rata) Sep 1954: 9 games, 6 wins, 0 draws, 3 defeat = 18 points (in 3 points for a win pro rata) I'm sure there's more but that's all I can find at the moment
Thanks for looking it up. 54/55 we were in Div 3N and 78/79 in Div 4 of course, so this month is the best you’ve found so far for the second tier.
