I went into my local coop and id forgot my wallet a fella lent me 20 notes, i later popped to his house to drop it off. I got chatting to him and he played for rhyl fc in later 70s and early 80s. I told him i was a barnsley fan and he said he'd been to the 3 f a cup ties we had. 2 draws home and away and we lost the 3rd. He had been all of them and his 2 friends played in all of them howard smart and laurie ( cant remember his surname now) . He said rhyl were a much better team back then as they are poor now. He went to the next round away to swansea where rhyl were 1 up and hit the woodwork but in the end swansea won turned it round and won 6-1.

It was cold out but atood and chatted about it all for about 20 mins. Was very interesting. He said Smart was at donny rovers and moved to rhyl. And alot engliah players played for them for years and most of them stayed in area and still live here

Was that the night we went to Old Trafford for the third match? It was foggy over the top and a miserable trip back. Fair to say it was not our best side.

The name of Grenville Millington still sends shudders down the spine of oldie Reds supporters. I only saw the Oakwell game, but he was like Gordon Banks and Peter Bonnetti combined that night!
