I was convinced that Derby used to play in Navy blue shorts, not black. Looked it up, turns out my memory isn’t that bad after all. The kit was white & navy for most of the 70s and 80s. Apparently, when Cloughie took over at Derby, he had the colours changed from black to navy so that the players would feel like they were playing for England. They changed back to black in the 90s.
The story goes that the day we were playing Loughborough Town at home (28th January 1899), the away team turned up in Blue and White striped shirts. This forced us to change into our Red shirts. We won the game 9-0 and have played in Red shirts ever since. To this day it still remains our biggest home league victory
In my opinion we ought to have the first 2 kits as away kits I like them both although I'd prefer brown socks with the brown stripes once again in my opinion they are better than that yellow kit we have .....
Should definitely have beaten that against Huddersfield. McClair.missed 3 absolutely sitters besides Hignett missing a penalty.
Before Don Revie took over at Leeds they played in blue shirts and yellow shorts (Reverse of Brazil). Revie changed it to all white because Real Madrid, who were the dominant force in Europe, played in all white. He thought the pride in wearing the kit would rub off on his team. He was probably right
Imagine buying your young 'un a replica kit in the late 19th century knowing it would still be 'current' 10 years after it no longer fit him / her?
I know the modern trend is to continually change kits every season and have as many as possible, but I'd love if we made more of a stand and had a new kit every other season and rotated between home and away. I'd also like black to be a constant feature in the away kit given Barnsley being a former mining town and built on coal.
