When I ran an office in Huddy 5 of us used to Chuck a fiver in each on a Monday. So quid a day each. Yes it was just for dinner granted. We'd take it in turns weekly to be in charge of preparing it. We hammered the 'whoops' reduced shopping but ate like kings in a work environment. Tuna pasta bake. Chicken curry. Homemade soups etc. Fruit smoothies. It can be done. But having to feed kids is probably a totally different proposition. Dietry needs, picky eaters etc. Also like I said the quid a day was for just one meal. No breakfast, tea or supper or snacks. Also buying for 5 adults is far more cost effective than 2-3 kids.
Totally agree. Again an ill thought out initiative, just give them their £15 as a voucher. Problem solved.
The fact that we are having this discussion makes me angry but not surprised. As the tories have been forced into providing meals for kids at a sum of £15 per week. Instead of vouchers which maybe 1 in 100 at worst parents may misuse - I'm not up with the drugs scene but I find it hard to believe anyone dealing would take a food voucher, they hit on the idea to give their mates 75% of of the value. It makes me totally sick absolutely everything they do is for a very tiny minority of their supporters benefit. They arent even subtle about it As for your post all prices from Tesco eggs - cheapest large eggs they have are 18p each (per half dozen) x4 = 72p Sliced bread a 16 slice loaf is £1.10 so 4 slices = 27.5p The cheapest cheese I could find was £7/kg so 50gms is a big lump = 35p lets throw in the butter for free as I have no idea what amount you want but that still comes to £1.34 so please explain your working to get 40p above
I can’t get it for 40p either but it’s not necessarily 1.34 Aldi - 15 eggs 1.18, 4 for 31p Bread 20 slices 36p 4 for 7p Butter - might mean spread, so maybe 10p for the lot Cheese - 4.43 per kg, 50g 22p 70p, plus some oats for the porridge if he meant that too.
Can't find it now but it's on here and says 'This guidance has been prepared jointly by LACA, PHE and DfE and sets out some general principles for putting together a food parcel which will allow parents/carers to prepare simple and healthy lunches for their child/children at home across the week.' https://laca.co.uk/laca-view/free-school-meals-guidance-producing-food-parcels
Thing that makes me 'giggle' is that pubs at some point could only serve you a pint if you were having a 'substantial meal'. If I had that parcel on a percentage basis I'd only be served half a John Smith's.
I can’t decide what infuriates me more. The fact that the Government repeatedly get away with this blatant scandalous way of sticking two fingers up at the country. The “apologists” (who really are infuriating) trying to convince others on Social media that there is nothing wrong with half a potato and a cheese slice four times a week, the toe end of a carrot for tea. Or the Spineless Starmer who takes to Twitter for five seconds, going through the motions to express some half arsed objection, whilst simultaneously doing **** all about it AGAIN. It’s a National disgrace and i can’t believe that this awful uncaring set of w@nkers are getting away with it again.
I shop at Keith Hill's favourite, Aldi. 8 chicken thighs on the bone £1.65. tomatoes, onions, cayenne pepper & salt & pepper marinade , cumin, a moderate amount of salted butter, garlic, chilli flakes & garam masala. Rice & a mini naan, 4 people fed for under 2 quid each. (Usually that is just me, so have it two nights & freeze the rest). Veg chilli tonight, that is even cheaper. I am addicted to avocados, but I have them for brekkie with poached eggs & tomatoes. PS sometimes add coconut milk for an extra 59p. (Less than 15p per portion).
