On my DJ agency there are 16 different platforms people want me to contact them on. Non sharable with others.

I'd like to go back to the days when you put an add in the back of Sounds / New Musical Express.

Just that really, other than why is it that all fascists have bad hair?

"The DJ arriving on platform 16 will be the 19.70 from Glamrock..."

Sounds/NME takes me back a bit. I read both every week - I bought Sounds and a lass from the office bought NME, so we swapped mid-week. After I switched offices, I realised I missed the NME, so switched my allegiance. Just in time for the New Wave explosion.

I always preferred the NME, bought all 3 for a time. Melody Maker, Sounds and NME.

Took me a while to work out just because it was in the music press didn’t automatically make it good!

I pray that like vinyl, the printed version of the NME circa late 70s/early 80s format one day returns.

What an era and what a music paper! News, features, album and single reviews, crossword, gig guide, letters...I spent hours over it, highlight of the week at a time of amazing music.

I'm torn between being frustrated at different fragmented platforms (be it streaming services, messaging apps, social networks, DRM systems) and not wanting monopolies. The ideal solution would be one benign platform (like the web itself) with multiple contributors that connect to that framework. Maybe.

Yes, NME had the best journos in my opinion. I liked some of the MM writers too. Sounds was best for band stuff / equipment & classified ads, so occasionally dipped into that.

Sorry but I could never let that be common knowledge. I keep this info for my private moments

I've recently started to clean my internet presence after being a bit freaked out by watching the Netflix documentary 'The Social Dilemma'. Would highly recommend watching. https://www.theguardian.com/comment...-a-wake-up-call-for-a-world-drunk-on-dopamine

I've got rid of Facebook, Facebook Messenger and switched away from Whatsapp to Signal for better privacy.

There has been something in the news in the last few days saying Whatsapp will be sharing parts of your phone data/information with Facebook and you have no control over it.

I did embarrassingly have platforms myself. What a fashion disaster they were.
