Were so indicative of our season, in my opinion. Styles' wonderful shot for the first was so reminiscent of quite a number we've scored this season from Styles himself, Adeboyejo, Mowatt & Morris. The second seemed to sum up everything good about this team. Firstly, Victor closed down an opposition defender, won the ball from him and then plays a good pass to Chaplin. Then, Chaplin runs at the defence before playing a cute through ball to Dike. Finally, Dike (having made an intelligent run off the ball) is coolness personified in placing the shot beyond the onrushing 'keeper. All this in the last few minutes of the game, too. Personally, I'm thoroughly enjoying watching this group of players, under a Head Coach who has made such a positive impact, represent our club. I've no idea how long this journey will last, so I'm determined to enjoy the ride.
My favourite part of this is that when winning a game, not only are we employing fresh strikers to interrupt the opposition, but we’re likely to score in the closing minutes too. Ive spent most of my time watching Barnsley with my heart in my mouth for the last 10 minutes if we’ve been winning or drawing. But this team is a safe bet for a win from there.
The first, for me anyway, seemed to go in like slow motion. But the bend on it was great and took it away from the goalie. I agree with the second. Completely sums us up. Great link up play from our 3 attackers. I wonder what combination of strikers Val will go for on Saturday. We have such squad depth right now, it is incredible. There’s only really central midfield where I feel we are a bit light (and potentially left wing back whilst Williams is out) but Halme has shown a few times that he’s ample at sitting in that role.
Another point I meant to highlight (it's an age thing!) was the huge improvement in performances & results against teams who caused us problems last season, Stoke being the latest. Preston, Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday are other such examples.
