Having just been named as Manager of the Month, Clarke's men
responded with a 4-4 draw at home to Stockport County. The Reds were 4-1 up with a brace each from Graham and Bell with just ten minutes to go. However, they conceded goals on 80, 85 and 88 minutes to give Stockport a share of the spoils.

RE: .Stockport County

Date: 24th February 1979
Result: Barnsley 4 Stockport County 4 (ht 2-0)
Managers: Barnsley - Allan Clarke; Stockport - Mike Summerbee (so, old enmities there)
It was only the Reds' third game since Boxing Day because of the big freeze. We were 2-0 up at half time and coasted on to 4-1 with about nine minutes to go. Then Les Bradd (ex Rotrherham, Notts County) took control with a nine-minute hat trick to draw the Hatters level. We had a debutant (and one-game wonder) Gary Copley in goal for the injured Peter Springett. He never played another first team game. I always thought that we lost because we were knackered due to match-fitness. Summerbee, not having the best of seasons, made the most of the occasions by announcing, "We are the best team in the league going forwards." Pity they spent most of the season in reverse, then! We finished fourth and were pormoted in Clarke's first season. Stockport finished seventeenth.
Scorers: Tommy Graham 2; Derek Bell 2 for the Reds; Phil Henson and Bradd 3 for the Hatters.
Attendance: 9153.
Barnsley: Copley; Collins, Saunders, McCarthy, Chambers; Riley, Clarke, Little, Millar; Graham, Bell.
Stockport County: Cassidy; Smith, Fogarty; Rutter, Edwards, Cahill; Henson, Halford, Bradd, Park, Lee. Sub. Prudham (for Rutter).

Any more you want to know from the Rothmans?

RE:Always wished...

We had another player called Alexander, so that the scorers might have been Alexander, Graham, Bell - ring! ring!

Ironically, a couple of years back we were also 3 v 0 up in the second half and ended up drawing 3 v 3 Stockport at Oakwell.

I remember the 4 v 4 very well, snow piled all around the pitch and about 100 stockport fans on the old spion kop going ballistic everytime Les Bradd scored................'UNBELIEVABLE JEFF'!!

Ipswich was similar

[ Barnsley 3 Ipswich 3 ]
Sunday Mirror, Mar 10, 1996 by HENRY MATTHEWS

Barnsley 3

Ipswich 3

TWO-GOAL Ian Marshall sparked a sensational finish as Ipswich grabbed three goals in the final seven minutes to draw level.

The lanky striker declared: "I've never been involved in a come- back like that. People must have written us off."

Simon Milton, who performed magnificently throughout, snatched the dramatic equaliser in injury time.

Marshall punished Barnsley keeper David Watson's uncertainty on the edge of the area after 85 minutes to sneak his first goal when he robbed the keeper to roll the ball into an open net.

Three minutes later Watson was again well-beaten by Marshall, who got to Milton's pass and put it under the keeper.

Milton's equaliser came from Alex Mathie's right-wing cross.

Ipswich started well with some cultured passing before it all began to go badly wrong with John Wark's trip on Barnsley's Andy Payton in the 24th minute.

Skipper Neil Redfern scored from the spot-kick and minutes later Andy Liddell turned the ball past keeper Richard Wright from outside the area.

When Redfern increased the Yorkshiremen's lead three minutes into the second-half, it looked all over.

Delighted manager George Burley said: "We didn't start playing well until we were 3-0 down."

I remember it well, as a young un i was in the ponty end early with some of my mates from Shafton, and were were nattering with the players and kicking the balls back to them etc. One of the players invited 3 of us onto the snow covered pitch for a kickabout !! They were prcticising corners, cant remember who took it, but i caught it brilliantly on the forehead and it flew in the net, my mates and the players were jumping on me in the snow etc, It was a fantastic experience, scoring in the ponty end. My head nearly came off though as i recall the ball coming at me with such force, what a great memory that was though. Makes me laugh even now when i think about it....:D :D :D

I sawed my scarf in half that day, scraping it along walls back to the car.

Nearly as bad as watching Peterborough beat us in our away kit atOakwell (they had forgot theirs)
