I don't like it either but a lot of words they use are genuine English words that the early settlers took with them and continued to use, whilst they fell out of use here in the British isles. A good example is "fall" instead of autumn. Have a read of Bill Bryson's books about Britain you'd be surprised how many such words there are.
I agree with most of that, however, some regular posters on here who I've met just once or never, I now regard as friends.
The original question said What's your beef? not Beef. I managed to get a female friend to shout "beef curtains" loudly in a works canteen and received a stunned silence. She had no idea what it meant.
