16 horses in 7 races. Backing ew at single-figure prices. The bookies must love you.

I like Press Your Luck in the first. Should be about 16s. Won a couple of novice hurdles in the autumn before getting stuck in the mud this winter. Finished 2nd back on good ground last time out.

Itchy Feet could be a decent price in the Melling Chase. He's been let down by his jumping over the winter, but there's question marks over those at the top of the market. 25s with the dead 8 running are decent e/w terms. Has won on good before.

Bold Enough in the 5.15 also is worth a tickle. So to speak. Top trainer with a very capable amateur booked - has been travelling strongly over slightly further before not quite getting home. 12s is very fair.

Of the novice races I don't really like anything much. Dusart could be anything, but not at the prices. For Pleasure will maybe run them ragged. The novice chasers I don't like. Chantry House too short. Sporting John prefers soft. Fiddlerontheroof doesn't know how to win. Big Breakaway can't jump. There might be a boil over in this one.

Interesting, but tricky day. I like Henderson's two in the first (1.45), but Dusart (2.20) is the most exciting horse on show today. Although this is Grade 1, the rest of the field do not look G1 standard. But as Fonzie says, Dusart could be anything. He beat the subsequent Betfair Hurdle winner at Newbury on debut, posting a fast closing sectional time. Again, as Fonzie says, the bugbear is the price. But at 15/8 in one place (35% chance) I'll have him because I think he is closer to an Evens shot than a 2/1 in my book.

In the Mildmay (2.50) I have Chantry House way ahead, and likely to improve if anything for the step up to three miles. The Tizzard stable is out of form and Chantry beat Shan Blue hollow at Cheltenham. He's 6 from 8 career starts, and while again he's short enough here he'll do for me.

I see that Fakir D'OUdairies has been backed into favouritism for the Marsh (Melling) Chase (3.25). Joseph's horse keeps posting monster time and form figures - the best in this race - but he keeps getting beaten. To be fair, he has been defeated by some of the best in England and Ireland, but in Politologue he faces a chaser whose trainer has a 41% strike rate in the last fortnight (17 from 41). This test is tailor-made for Politologue (he was second in this two years ago and won it the year before). 3/1 is very good value to my way of thinking.

I haven't a scooby in the other Aintree races. My bid to be clever with Oisin Murphy's Southwell mounts yesterday came unstuck spectacularly with the Kerry man drawing a blank. I traded out his last two once my acca's looked doomed. Perhaps he had his mind on an assignment with a Southwell pharmacist after racing! Lady Kaht often says to me: "Don't try to be clever - just be yourself!"

Anyway, undeterred, I've had a look at Leicester on the Flat today. I like Gubbass (1.00) on breeding for the Hannon stable. I'm doubling up Unforgotten (2.10) and Boss Power (3.15) (Lady Kaht again!) and in the 3.55, I think there is a red herring. The penalised Law Of The Sea is the favourite for Benoit (7) and John & Thady. But Will Buick is up to ride Knight's Town, a Dansili gelding who cost 320k as a yearling. He ran way too green on debut at Kempton, so the form looks rubbish. But Buick's presence (only one other 'outside' ride) and the horse's purchase price suggest much, much more is expected. He is a very tasty 5/1 this morning.

Poorer and wiser at 5.00pm! Good Luck everyone. :)

Aintree today, all with an eye on best place price. Some of these I won't punt on.

    1,45 Whatsupwithyou (7 places available)
    2.20 Third Time Lucki
    2.50 Fiddlerontheroof
    3.25 Fakir Doudairies
    4.05 Ibleo (7 places available)
4.40 Bravemansgame to win/Oscar Elite to place
    5.15 Leoncavallo (6 places available)

I've also noticed that for the National tomorrow Betfair have 5,6,7 and 10 places available at the moment so if you have a selection at a very big price it may be advantageous.
Best of luck. Pity we cant all win!!

Agree mate. It's nice to win but it's the prestige at the big meetings too. I hate horses winning and saying I looked at that so I save up winnings etc and back horses I've backed before. Donks is right bookies love me but I don't care.

Houx Gris fell and Dusart wasn't good enough. Mister Coffey got me sumat back in first though. Oh well two down five to go plus Leicester and Chelmsford :)

I think there'll be other days for Houx Gris and Dusart SD, although this possibly lowers the expectations for the latter. The winner looked as though he'd only just joined in!

Great stuff and glad to be back on track due to a faller in the last. Not sure Chantry House would have won but not complaining.
