I hate Grimsby - there was hell on there in one of my first ever away matches. Well done, Stefan. Get 'em relegated.
I've been headbutted and got the scar to prove it. That wasn't an headbutt , it was just a frustrated warning.
Grimsby are a decent sized club tbf. They can easily attract attendances of 7-8k when they're doing well. They've seriously under achieved over the last 15 years. That road though, between Grimsby and Cleethorpes is something else, like zombie land.
I spent quite a bit of time in Grimsby a few years ago, 1st morning, walked past a pub at 8:30 full of drinkers, I asked a colleague if this was dockers after a shift, he looked at me like I was daft and said... Nah, just pi ssheads. The next week I asked some of the locals where the nearest cash point was, they described the closest two but said ‘you don’t want to use either though because staff from here have been mugged at both of them’. I’ve worked in some dodgy places, but that was second only to Manningham Lane for making me watch my step.
What actually happened that day? I know we got spanked and Rankin wound the away fans up but did everyone try to leave and got held back or something? Seem to recall a write up about trouble the following week in the Chronicle but I don't know anyone who went that day. I see Grimsby in a similar way to Stockport County, two clubs with a very sizeable support that could easily be League One and perhaps flirt with the Championship with the right backing. Stockport are on their way back it seems. It took Grimsby a few goes to get back into the football league so they'll be devastated if they drop out again.
Yes a lot of fans tried to leave early on when we were losing badly but police and stewards wouldn't let them out as there wasn't enough police outside the ground during the game so barnsley fans started kicking off
No. 1-0 to Grimsby. 1995? They scored early, I recall us battering them, but we couldn't get the equaliser. Didn't Sheridan clear one off Grimsby's line?
https://chesterfield-fc.co.uk/club-news/striker-agrees-to-join-spireites He was never going to last at Grimsby after what he did. At that level though it could be a very good signing for Chesterfield. He should score them plenty of goals and they stand a decent chance of promotion next season.
