With Dike having arrived from the MLS, it reminded me of when I went to see Tampa Bay Rowdies v Miami Heat back in 1992. The standard of play was comically bad. I've genuinely seen park matches that were a lot better. The only proper footballer on show was a 40 year old Ricky Hill. He was pretty good. So it was Ricky Hill, plus 21 other blokes who looked like they'd been picked up off the street / from the nearest pub. But it was actually amazing. First of all, there was a commentator, who doubled up as an ad man every time the ball went out of play (which was pretty often as nobody except Ricky could control or pass a football). Then there was the crowd. I think around 3000 people were there, half of which were English holidaymakers who'd gone for a laugh. But the local Rowdies fans were fascinating, discussing the match using American terminology. One particularly excitable old man in front of us erupted after some backchat from a Miami player, shouting that he should be sent off for "insubordination"! And I remember thinking that the massive pizza slices at half time for a dollar a pop were considerably better than anything I'd ever eaten at Oakwell. As a football match it was dreadful, but it was an absolutely brilliant night out.

I just wrote a whole answer having read the thread title as CUP matches not crap matches! :)

In terms of crap matches....I think I'd have to go for Oxford away final match of the promotion season. Lost 5-1 and it didn't really matter.

Ironically, I think a lot of 0-0 draws are quite entertaining.

Bristol Rovers 2-1 Barnsley, last game of the 18/19 season. Had a cracking weekend in Chepstow and Bristol.

I'd end up suing BBS admin for an RSI claim if I properly replied to this thread in full.

Rochdale away. 3-0 down and the plant pot song.

You wouldn't believe how many "Funny Football Chant" YouTube compilations that has made it onto.

2-0 up at Wembley 2016, this guy about 2 rows down pulls a plant pot out - sticks it on his head and starts singing the plant pot song.... hilarious :)

(Un) fortunately, I was on the Manor Road terrace (with the home supporters) that day. I kept my mouth shut most of the time. Another poor game at the Manor Ground was the day of the Bradford fire. The day Oxford got promoted to Division one. We lost 4-0. At the end the wobbly figure of Maxwell came bouncing on the pitch at the end. I have just finished reading a new biography on him. It confirmed what we all know about him. He was a CROOK.

We rarely do well at Oxford.

About 5 or 6 years ago I went to a local league game in Goa. (was on holidays at the time). Standard was very poor but shall we say "enthusiastic".
Anyway ref blows for half time and a big queue quickly forms for sale of Bingo tickets! Surreal.

Went to a packed out Bracken Moor to watch Park Steels vs Scarborough in a FA trophy tie. Game was awful but had access to members bar. Weather was -2 at best, but i had was wearing the finest beer jacket and loved it.

That sounds amazing. Guessing any food on sale there was a touch better than what we get at Oakwell!

Another time on holiday on Corfu we got friendly with the family who ran our favorite taverna. The waiter told us he was playing for local team the day after in a grudge match against local rivals, so me and mate left our wives to sunbathe on the beach whilst we went to game.
    It was carnage.
Tommy Smith, Chopper Harris et al wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes.
From memory I think 4 players had been sent off and just about every other player had been booked by the time the ref blew for half time.
The crowd was like Millwall v West Ham with fighting going on everywhere. When someone pulled out a gun and started firing it in the air, the ref decided to leg it as did me and my mate, back to the wives on the beach.
Local league football in Greece could be described as entertaining.

    Fortuna Dusseldorf v Holstein Kiel.

We are Fortuna fans and as we were top of the 2nd division in September I booked a weekend over there for the last home game just in case (also went to Nuremberg a week later via Frankfurt).

In the mean time I got to know some like minded brits via the internet who were also going so we decided to have a meet up. The first AGP ( Annual General P155up) of the UK Fortuna fanclub happened that weekend :)

Fortuna themselves had secured promotion with a last minute winner at Dresden the week before so was the champions position left to play for (we were top,Nuremburg 2nd) and Kiel had secured 3rd spot for the play offs and we were expecting a right humdinger of a game.

Needless to say, neither team looked bothered and it led to a very uneventful 1-1 (even the goals happened about 2 minutes apart) but the atmosphere before, during and after the match was absolutely unreal ( 50000 there) .

Stupid amounts of beer were consumed and we met so many people who still remain friends and we can't wait to get out there and have another AGP...2019 was Dortmund away and last year was to be Schalke at home but Covid buggered that up.

The following week we were in Nuremburg and met up with even more UK fans and we beat them with a ninety third minute winner to win the title (but that was a far from crap game :) ).

2 weekends with great memories, borderline alcohol poisoning (9 days in Germany does that to you), and friends for life :)

Great story! How come you've ended up supporting Fortuna Dusseldorf? To be honest even though Zenit are a very decent side I've never been able to muster up very much passion at their games, except maybe against Spartak as they always bring a decent amount of away fans.

We'd been going to Berlin for Christmas for a few years and after going to Union Berlin's Carol concert, our lass said she wanted to go somewhere different and see a match. She is in a wheelchair so I had to pick somewhere that we could get tickets and who played in red. I'd heard of Fortuna from a former poster on here and they have a modern ground with about 100 wheelchair spaces so I got in touch with them and sorted tickets out and booked a long weekend in Dusseldorf. Absolutely loved the city and the people...the stadium is fantastic and they won 3-0 and we were hooked.

Been going back ever since ....I think the most games we've seen is 8 in a year including Munich, Dortmund, Nuremburg (twice) away....went to Berlin for the Hertha match but missed it due to our lass being rushed to hospital with septic shock...was in 2 weeks. Missed it the season after too as she ended up in Barnsley general with pneumonia the day before we were due to fly out

Oh, and 4 or five pints while watching the game, plus what is consumed before and after tends to make you even more enthusiastic ;)
