Moore forced his move, its been explained hundreds of times. In his own words he had outgrown the club but you already know this. After the season we've had l couldn't give a flying **** about those that's sold, bizarre people still bitter about them. All those players were on Crynes contracts, probably full of clauses we don't know about. Same faces trying to find the slightest bit of negativity out of a very good set of accounts that a football finance expert has commented positively on. Anything to try and batter the owners with after the best season in years and things off the field looking up. What a miserable fecking place, imagine if we were ****. Time to give this place a miss, enjoy the summer, hope Boris let's us out of the country and return to these miserable fuckers in August.
Moore didn't force anything. He would have happily played for us. He was happy to receive a much bigger wage elsewhere too, but if we hadn't sold him he would have tried his best for Barnsley. We received an offer that met the club's valuation which they accepted. That's what the model is, buy talent cheap and sell when an offer is received that makes a profit and meets the club's valuation of the player. It's a model I believe in. In this instance I thought the club made a mistake as we were unable to bring in a replacement. However, they could legitimately argue the transfer money they received ultimately helped fund assembling a squad that took us to the playoffs. Keiffer is a nice kid who played well for us. He didn't refuse to play for us or force anything. Selling him was part of the business plan. And although I disagreed with the sale at the time, and would argue we were a little fortunate to avoid relegation that season, I cannot counter the argument that all the player trades we have made has led to one of the most enjoyable and successful seasons in our history.
This is why when anyone has posted their admiration for the ‘Brentford model’ I’ve replied saying ‘It’s great. If you’re happy being £100 million in debt to the owner and a wages to revenue ratio of 150%+’. They’re paying that Leeds centre half £30k a week on crowds no bigger than ours.
This is speculation though as we don’t actually know? Just like we don’t know how forceful he was about leaving. What we do know is that his agent was touting him around other clubs for over six months, he said he’d ‘outgrown Barnsley’, and he essentially handed in a transfer request. As a result we made a decision to sell him.
That's how I saw it, he was still happy to play for us we received a offer that we deemed acceptable he was sold. Now the figures for those 3 are in black and white at 8.2 million for all 3 it is poor hope we eventually learn and start getting good fees.
Kieffer Moore was signed under the new owners he still had two years remaining. We would have known if there was a release fee for pinnock or lindsay. All I'm saying is now its in black and white the fee we got for all 3 is poor hope we learn.
It was obvious summat was amiss. I remember all the rumours during pre season friendlies. Which Moore didn’t play a part in and was sat in the stands. TBH I don’t remember him actually handing in a transfer request. But I don’t doubt your knowledge of it. As looking back it was probably obvious due to the mystery surrounding him at that time.
We’re not learning anything new here though are we? Lindsay was undisclosed and believed to be £2.5m Pinnock was undisclosed and believed to be £3 million Moore was undisclosed and reported at £2.7m and £4m. At £8.2m the money received is exactly as reported. With the Moore fee of £4m likely being the add ons, with Pinnock the only one who could earn is more money going forward. You can say that wasn’t enough and we didn’t get good value, but it isn’t new information.
I could be wrong (it has been known) Don't clubs pay transfers in installments. If so I would regard the figure as a minimum. Further instalments may fall outside the accounting period
To be fair, £3m is a reasonable price for someone in the last year of his contract, at a club just promoted from League 1. If we'd got 5.5m for those two, and signed Sollbauer and Andersen in that summer, it would've looked good business. Can't remember which podcast it was, but listened to an interview with Dale Tonge during the first lockdown, and he said something along the lines of the club should've only sold Lindsay and Moore, and done what they could to keep Pinnock and Davies. Suggests him and Stendel weren't overly concerned about the sale of Moore.
I still find it boring, I think I'd only be interested if our accounts were like our neighbours in S6.
If you remember, there were a few times that season where Moore found himself on the bench. At the Trust Meeting with Stendel he basically alluded to the same thing; losing Ethan was huge but he was far more accepting of Moore leaving. To be fair to the club we did offer Pinnock the captaincy and five figures a week. Brentford were offering more and a move down south. I still don't know why we entertained any bids at all but I guess looking at it very black and white with the accounts (and ignoring the drama at Wigan) we balanced the books and stayed in the division.
I'm glad they're not! But I meant in general, not ours specifically. Football finances are just crazy, and most of the numbers involved are jaw-dropping. I can't believe that more clubs haven't gone to the wall.
