I'm doing my best to avoid getting it certainly don't want to lose my sense of taste and smell before Christmas or be laid up ill for weeks
I personally know more people off work with Covid now than at any time during the pandemic. If you think that by pretending it’s over you can make it so, you’re not opposing the government; that’s exactly what Johnson wants you to do.
It's mad how much covid is about. A week doesn't go by lately without me knowing of someone new who's caught it and I'll with it or know someone who knows someone with it.
Four parents rang up my daughters year group last week saying their kids were ill with cold and wouldnt be coming in. School suggested they take a PCR test. All 4 came back positive. 800 dead this month so far (1st to 13th October as there's a lag in result from 14th up to today) What are we doing?
Curently there's over 16,000 NHS staff off work through Covid related illness or self-isolation, which is 20% of all NHS health related absences. What are we doing?
A high percentage of the world's cases are in this country. The government seem to be supporting its spread. There's now a new strain. The NHS is at breaking point, so they'll hand out more money to their mates under the mandate of acting in the nations interests. We need to test because it's everywhere, the government at no point have got a grip. Most countries who have had a unilateral lockdown have coped brilliantly. Many are now overtaking us on vaccine figures. So how long before the next round of restrictions? Is Christmas really safe? Can anyone honestly say any other PM in past history would have done worse? Include in that any leader of the opposition?
Meanwhile; senior Tories and their media pals are pushing everyone WFH to get back in the office. couldn’t make it up.
Oh, it's very far from over. Plenty more consequences and repercussions of the last 18 months still to come.
I saw some figures a few days ago that showed deaths across Europe from covid. The UK was miles ahead of anything else. I think Germany had something like 14 in comparison to our 157. I think the nearest to us... was Ireland which was about 27 I think. We don't tend to hear about our world leading vaccination programme any more.... given that many countries passed us some time ago. I only found out today there was a new strain of covid thats running at 8% of infections. And already the govt are telling us theres nothing to worry about, its not more contagious, or deadly, or resistant to vaccines. But we've been here before. Several times. They lied back then, they are most likely doing so again now. I've no idea what the answer is. I think many people chalked sod it on covid months ago, maybe a year ago and I don't know how we claw back sentiment to respect distance, wash hands and wear masks in confined areas. It is what it is. I don't see how anything changes for the better.
Ooh, but if you're the other side of the fence, this new strain has now been mentioned just so that the authoritative government can have another lockdown.
Because its part of the Great Reset or something and the rich want your collection of Barnsley programmes from 1982 home games...
I don't think they would. I also don't think anyone is hiding something from us about how deadly/contagious this new strain is. I was just giving examples of how people are currently rushing to the worst possible conclusions about anything and everything, and it isn't just Covid.
This government lie as easily as we breathe air. That its been dubbed Delta plus would suggest its something in addition to the previous mainstream virus. We'll see in due course what impact it has, but we've been here with alpha and delta and had the same dismissive communication from a "government spokesperson." Hopefully this next variant doesn't set us back and for once, the spokesperson wasn't abysmally wrong again. And I agree with you, I see no reason why they'd want a lockdown given how politically damaging it would be to their core and re-energise the backbench crazies.
I read that it was called AY.4.2 and "some people are calling it Delta Plus" and I imagine that those people work for establishments traditionally based in Fleet Street ready to stir up the ignorant masses in the near future.
