Went to another Dinner with Flicker last night. Bit cagey compared to last few but things to report.......

    STEELE - THE TRUTH!!
Flicker smiled when subject brought up!!
Says it was a little bit of Devilment from the local paper!
Week after Hudds game he says he sat down with Stelle to discuss the future. Steele a desire to play in the premier league or maybe a top 6 challenging for promotion consistantly in the championship. Flicker agreed that he would not attempt to stand in his way but should he wish to stay in the end we would make an offer affordable to the club.
The 'age' thing came from a comment along the lines of Flicker saying - Steele is at his prime age. He is no longer a young goalkeeper and he isn't an experienced keeper on the decline. He is at the peak of his earning potential and for that reason it would not be viable to offer him a 2 year deal on terms it would need for him to stay. Hope that makes sense!!

Flicker said that this week is going to be massive for the club. Signings to be announced today, wednesday and hopefully friday too. Been difficult with Rowing leaving and Mansford only starting yesterday. But now Mansford is in the building he expects transfer activity to pick up.

A few weeks ago he believed Cranie was going to leave but says with each day he believes he will stay. Says he could be biggest signing of summer if he does stay. Very hopeful.

Cheers for the summary. A friend of mine went last night and said he was a bit cagey. All sounds very positive though, hopefully some big signings this week - starting with COGBA!

Great update brian, thanks for the insights. Always two sides to a story. The whole steele situation could have been handled differently by both parties, and i'm sure flicker will learn from it. He cannot expect to escape question, on some of his comments. However, the chron need to focus on working with club. Their 'devilment' obviously hasn't gone unnoticed. We are no longer in this 'them and us' culture, and the hassell article was nothing short of propaganda, influenced in part by his christian best buddy. There's already way too much emphasis on walker & his mob getting the 'breaking news', while blatantly & routinely looking to undermine chronicle exclusives.

    A work in progress

Meanwhile - cog, cranie and jennings in a week, would be an excellent week

or just anyone who can pay him more

Obviously he can sign for whoever he wants. But he indicated he would leave only for a contender in the championship or a premier league club...... We will see i suppose!!

Flannel. Everything still points to Luke getting squeezed out. We are 6 weeks away from the start of the season without a decent contracted goalkeeper. I suppose no-one dare mention the B word?

That makes a hell of a lot more sense than he's 'too old'. Still can't understand why we can't at least offer him a 2 year deal (or more) and negotiate something from there. As Flitcroft has alluded to, Steele may not want that, but showing a player he is wanted will never hurt.
