Yesterday i went to a funeral of my neighbor who died the other week, he had been a big Barnsley fan for years, he had followed them from a very young age and still a season ticket holder in the west stand. Jim and his wife Peggy were well known in the West Stand and use to sit directly behind the directors. I took it upon myself to speak with Sir Bobby via facebook to see if there was anything the club could do as Peggy told me that the hurst was going to stop outside Oakwell for a few minutes for Jim to say his goodbyes to a team he loved. Bobby pointed me in the direction of a lady called Rachel Hearn who was very helpful and said that something could be done for when the hurst arrived. She agreed that we could have a shirt given by the club to be given to the family in memory of Jim. Yesterday was the funeral and i went down to Oakwell to make sure everything was in place and when i got there she told me that not only would there be a shirt available but Danny Wilson himself would present it to Jim's wife Peggy on behalf of Barnsley FC, the hurst was suppose to arrive at 10:45 outside Oakwell Danny was there from 10:30 and waited in the box office. The hurst arrived late at around 11:10 Danny came straight out only to find out that there was no family members to give the shirt to, as the hurst had called at Oakwell before picking up the family. Danny presented the shirt to me and asked me to pass it onto Peggy and send his condolences. If Barnsley FC do read this forum i would like to thank Danny Wilson, Rachel Hearn and Bobby Hassell all for their help in making this happen. Peggy is going to get the shirt framed and put on the wall.
Excellent stuff Jaffa. After all that's been said this week, I think this is an excellent example of how those at the club do care. They don't always get it right, no one ever does, but they do care. RIP Jim
Nice post mate, and a nice touch on which would have been a very sad day....sincere condolences to the the family...
Wonderful news on a sad, sad day for Peggy and her family. A huge well done and thank you to Barnsley Football Club, Danny, Rachel & Bobby. R.I.P. Jim.
What makes it more special was that it was Danny himself who was on hand to present the shirt, not just one of the players or staff, the man who oversaw our most successful era as a football club. Great gesture from all concerned.
Thats fantastic - well done to you and the club. Such things make a small difference at a time of loss.
Fantastic that. Shows how much the Club means to people & that the Club actually do care. Well done BFC & all concerned, especially Danny for really caring. RIP Jim.
