For those who don't like to see personal & non football topics discussed on here, please indulge me. Twenty years ago today, our beautiful daughter was born. Within a matter of hours, we entered a living nightmare on what should have been a wonderful day. We were told we should brace ourselves for the worst. It was highly probable she wouldn't live to see a second day. Even if she was fortunate enough to grasp the extremely unlikely opportunity to live, then we had to accept she would live her still short life brain damaged. However, Laura proved to be a fighter. As were the wonderful staff in the Special Care Baby Unit in Barnsley Hospital. She pulled through that particular problem, but for years has been hit with very serious health issues. There's been so many occasions when numerous doctors have suggested she wouldn't live to see various birthdays. Thankfully, as well as being a fighter, she's also proved to be highly intelligent, despite having to miss enormous amount of time from school through illness & numerous hospital visits, including a variety of operations. All this and never a word of complaint or self pity over her lot in life. In fact, she's used what spare time she's been limited with to try and help others less fortunate than herself. Even when she had her kidney transplant in August 2011, she was more concerned with our two dogs than she was with herself! Now she's at university, this is the first birthday with her we'll miss. But we're also extremely proud of Laura and, despite all the setbacks, her achievements. Sorry for this tome, but we're extremely proud and happy parents this morning.
Didn't realise you'd gone through all this. Inspiring stuff I must say! I hope she has a great birthday.
Kev, wish Laura a very happy birthday from me. What a wonderful girl. Little wonder you are so proud of her achievements.

Brilliant, and very humbling - Laura is a true star. Happy Birthday Laura, today is my birthday as well but I'm 57, not 20, but thankfully I'm in good health.

A heartwarming tale in the face of numerous obstacles throughout Laura's Life. Within this post are many lessons we all can learn and embrace to make us thankful and appreciate the importance of never giving up in the face of adversity. Best Wishes hoping Laura has a Wonderful Birthday.
Happy Birthday Laura, ........good job you didn't get your brains and common sense from your dads side eh!
When your children go to University, it does not hit you first off, but they have actually flown the nest. They have to be independent at sometime. In your case it would be very special. good luck to the lass.
Brilliant thread mate, you should both be proud of the way you've brought her up too! she sounds a top lass to me.
Please say Happy Birthday to her from me and you have every right to indulge yourself on here I am really pleased she made it to be a proper grown up with far more common sense and intelligence than at least one of her parents
