Over the last few months everyday I see people moaning about Loans. This about loans, that about loans and the other about LOANS

It's clear from what Mr Crynes put that they are all on options to buy. This was made clear from the club in August though wasn't it.

So my question to people that are clearly moaning about this approach would be what if we bought some of these players?

The club could have racked up a million pound plus on Wilkinson, Rothwell and Smith plus 500K wages for the year.

Instead the club can send the remainder back having had a small gamble at best.

This approach sits very well for me, it really does

Doesn't give much confidence in our own Players does it? Digby for example. How does he feel knowing Johnson would rather play someone from another club instead?

Definitely something that you should apply to your personal life as well.

    Try before you buy.

    You make an excellent point.

Though it may well limit who we're allowed to loan - I mean, is anyone under those terms going to loan us anyone other than the dross they want to offload?

Smith 16 goals all comp. Good age for progression. 500/600K
Wilkinson, Rep Irish u21, bought by Bolton from Millwall for good money and on a good contract. 300/350K
Rothwell. Come through at Carrington, England u20. Again good age ready for the progression. 200/250k plus.

Just a guess but you get the point.

Seriously though I agree with you, and I've not been moaning about loans as I don't think it's the only reason for getting them, but I am so glad we've not splashed out on the players we've loaned to bring them in permanently. Although I'm still concerned that we may sign Wilkinson, maybe Smith, when January comes, I do hope not.

It loses the Club money - who in their right mind would buy a replica shirt and have a loanee's name printed on the back? It flies in the face of what being a fan is about - we want the vast majority of the team to be our own lads - not five or more of them here on short term loan agreements and 5 playing in the same match. Building a team based on so many loan players is like building a house and not putting in sound foundations and being surprised when it falls down. In another couple of months we could be seeing a fresh batch of loanees and having to start the team building process over again and, given where we are placed in League 1, if they don't gel immediately we're in real trouble.

I see your point wayne, Footballers are used to been up against another from a young age. Mentally they have to be so strong. Imagine been 10 years of age and it been you OR him for next season where it will happen again.

I see your point about the team gelling Brewerystander but not on the club losing money. If these players do well then the club will have a contract that says they get him for a set price and they will have something set with the player i'm sure. IMO the club can't lose.

We had a bid accepted for 75k for wilkinson.

Rothwell would cost something similar if anything however there would be a sell on clause should he become 'quality'

Smith might cost something more but you'll have to be a really bad shopper to not have change from 350k.

Let's be right Tom Bradshaw... Similar to wilkinson. 50k

Totally agree Phil, it's never bothered me using the loan system and as you say we could have signed some of these players on longer term contracts.

As much as we are approaching this try before you buy... its kind of flawed as every loan as been a gamble as such.

This policy as left us in a position to rebuild again in mid season. The option should only be exercised on one or two players. Wilkinson and Smith are the best examples, however have we got this with Pearson? This one is a no brainer if we have.

Where does this leave us with Hammill a short term deal? We could have invested in him on a 18-30 month contract as if he's firing we could get a decent return.

As for the players we had bids for in the summer I expect Hourihane to also leave in the next window as we will not say no I bet.

What Cryne as done is commendable but he's also made some awful desicions footballing wise and stood by the worse 2 managers in Davey and Johnson yet sacked possibly the best in Ritchie (as he wouldn't spend money) and Robins the only manager that kept us up safely.

Good theory but we can't afford the better ones and we could be stripped bare in January. Personally I think it isolates the fan base having so many lioanees because there's no real feeling of belonging or even building if 'your' team can be decimated in a matter of weeks.
