The lad's performances this season have been nowhere near the standards he set prior to his injury, for a variety of reasons. This has been obvious when witnessing his frustration and, at times, indiscipline on the pitch. However, he's now got five goals in the last three league games and is beginning to again show his true worth to our team. If his form continues and he stays injury free, I have every confidence in the lad becoming the first Barnsley striker in years to get twenty league goals in a season. Keep up the good work, Sam.
Sam Winnall is a proven scorer at this level and someone to build the side around. Let's hope nobody make the club an offer during this window of transfers.
He's one short of last seasons' tally of 13, achieved in 36 appearances in all comps. He's got 12 in 33 in all comps this season. If he stays fit/stays here, I'm sure he'll crack the 20 goal mark in the remaining 21 league games (plus potentially another 2 in the JPT). Who was the last player that got 20 goals in a season for us? I've not been supporting us that long but I certainly can't remember anyone scoring 20 in a season for Barnsley.
Brian Joicey was the last striker to score 20 league goals in a season. He got 26 in the 1976/77 season and also scored a hat trick in our 3-1 1st Round FA Cup win over Boston FC.
After last weeks dismal performance I would have dropped him. Just shows that we have a good manager and I dont know what I am talking about!
Yep he's coming good after what has largely been a disappointing season so far. He looks so much better with a strike partner. Couldn't really do it up front on his own...
Alternative view. I've known for a long time that Sam Winnall plays better alongside a second striker and there is no way I'd have played a midfielder next to him. Just shows we have a poor manager who doesn't know what he's doing.
Good striker in a two , takes a lot of hammer of central defenders when he plays up front on his own . Hope he gets at least 20 for season
