    Hey up
I am looking for inspiration, a nugget of information or advice. I tend to fall in to jobs rather than I go get the job. I have 11 years to retirement and at the moment I am working in a warehouse as a picker Its shift work and very tedious I cannot stay there till I am 67.
So I am putting my future in your hands. Here is a brief history of my working life.
Education reasonably standard but poor at english straight to work no college or university.
Work 24 years in retail rising to the dizzy heights of shop mamager. Untill I was made redundant. Over 10 years experience in construction as a general labourer.Again made redundant.Through various agencies I have done Shotblasting, van drivng, worked for air con enginneer as a labourer Every where I have worked I have always tried my best and I belive I left a good impression with my all employers, even at the warehouse I with am at the moment. If you asked me what job I wanted to do? The answer was as it is now I don't know. Hopefully any comments will be food for thought, or taken with a pinch of salt
    Heres hoping

Why not go back into retail? Do you enjoy customer service and interacting with the public?

youve got 11 years left ,if your still not chasing cash and can live on less money, do something you enjoy that involves regular sleep patterns, shifts are a killer when your young, think I would head for B and Q or something similar .pointing the way to the 40 watt light bulb section sounds steady away

Really mate, you need to decide on what you want to do. The idea that you'll suddenly see the job you want is being very optimistic.

What do you like doing, what are you good at, and then try to tie them together.

I can sympathise with you as I was made redundant at 59.

All the best and I hope you get something

How about modelling? Was reading earlier about the 80 year old Chinese bloke who has recently made it big in fashion modelling. He's called Deshung Wang. Look him up for inspiration.

There's tons of job sites these days where you can upload your CV and recruiters contact you regarding job vacancies.

I got a job in this way, it was the one that used to sponsor Portsmouth (Jobserve maybe?), uploaded my CV and got an email one day asking me to apply for a certain job. Filled in a few details as they already had my CV, went for the interview and got the job a day or two after.

I wouldn't advise just relying on someone contacting you mind, just look through the jobs and see what takes your fancy as well.

If you're after something a bit different, a mate of mine, who's a unique kind of chap, used a job website which specialised in 'non ordinary' jobs. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but he used it to give him inspiration for something to do. He's currently working in a lighthouse in Norway.

    Best of luck.

If you're in a financial position to do so, try for employment in an area you truly enjoy. Your present employment appears to be soul destroying for you, so a move to something that gives you more enjoyment, even if there's a drop in earnings, might be beneficial. Could further education in a specific discipline be an option for you?

My old man ended up driving a mini bus for a local taxi firm that had school contracts. He absolutely loved it. He ended up driving a lot of special educational needs children as they were the ones that needed to go to specific schools not necessary local ones.

He worked 30 years until his factory was taken over and he had to make his whole team redundant, and he was last man out himself. Honestly never seen him happier than he was for the 5 or 6 years driving that bus. He was lucky enough that it was ok not being the best paid, but job satisfaction was very high.

You are right, but I have been pondering my future since I left school. All I can say warehouse work is off the list
