Some of the old shows are so much better than the new comedies. Dads Army is a classic.

I loved the drama documentary about how it was made.

Dad's army and Hi-de-Hi both classics and timeless because they are period pieces so therefore, ironically, do not become dated. They were made even better because they were based on personal life experienec in that Jimmy Perry was in the home guard (apparently Pike was a self caricature) and he also was a Redcoat at Butlins after the war. Some of Hi-di Hi whilst funny is quite moving particulartly where Peggy finally becomes a yellow Coat just as the camps days come to an end (on par with the final scene in Black Adder goes Forth for pathos)

As someone has already posted, Sit-com is not a patch on what it was - Young ones, Black Adder, Aint Half Hot Risng Damp Porridge etc... I suspect PC has had something to do with the failure of BBC/ITV to come up with some decent sit-coms and we have gone back to the days of middle class suburban 'pap' almost as bad as Terry and June (If you have not seen or heard of that consider yourself very, very fortunate)

    RIP
