We need 273 to win. England's highest successful run-chase in Asia is the 209 they scored in 1961 against Pakistan in Lahore. So it's not going to be easy

Made a great start but so far this series we've seen wickets fall in clusters after a partnership is broken. Never easy for a new batsman to come in on a spinning wicket with men round the bat. Will be a great effort to chase this total down.

Agreed, one wicket and they're back in this especially if they get Root early and get stuck into Ballance. Remember the Ashes in 2013 at Durham Aussies were chasing 300ish and got to 100-0 with Rodgers and Warner tonking us. We won at a canter in the end. 4th innings run chases are difficult for a reason.

4th innings is usually hard at the best of times but even more so on a wicket that was turning square on the first morning.

Ballance lets us down YET AGAIN.

What has this guy got on the selectors that makes them keep picking him. He may be ex-Barnsley, and a Yorkshire player, but he gives his wicket away time and time again.

After a brilliant opening partnership over a hundred we are now collapsing again. Three cheap wickets. I still think England will win but it's not going to be as straightforward as it looked before tea.

I agree he's not worth his place at the moment but to be fair to him he still averages 40 in test cricket and everyone else tried in that position has failed.

Doesn't matter what his average is. He has been a liability for some time.

And there goes the fourth cheap wicket. Give me strength..........

I agree, but no one else has looked worthy of the role either, particularly when they want someone who's more of an accumulator to balance the counterattackers that follow. But his chance has gone now surely.

Cook also gives his wicket away after a steady 50.

They are in proper self destruct mode now. And this is BANGLADESH! It's not Australia. It's a team who have barely played any test match cricket and have never beaten England.

It looked like an easy stroll to the line. They look like they can't wait to get off the field now.

Gives the ECB a chance to mess up Haseeb Hameed like they did Adam Lyth. Lyth should have got the easier West Indies games to get ready for the harder stuff in the Ashes instead of being thrown in at the deep end. Hameed should have got the easier Bangladesh matches to get ready for the tougher series in India which he now looks like being played in.

Ballance's average still looks decent because he had such an amazing start to Test cricket. The thing with playing at the top level is that any slight flaw in your technique or temperament will soon get spotted and the opposition are good enough to exploit those flaws.

That's when the self doubt starts to creep in. Think that's what's happened to Ballance and why he's not doing anything in county cricket let alone test cricket. Seems either unable or unwilling to address his flaws.

Why not have two designated batters to attack the spinners, rather than having them all tip, tap their way out?

With two days to go they could have played like Boycott and got home in plenty of time. Instead too many got out to silly shots and Stokes seemed to think it was a 20/20 game.

Their spin bowlers bowled really well. That's where we lost the game - ours didn't perform. Hope the ICC gives them more test matches now.

Cricket doesn't always work like that. If a wicket is misbehaving, either seaming, swinging or turning, sooner or later you're going to get out. You'll get an unplayable ball that would get Boycott out even if he'd had a bat a foot wide. If all the team defend and block, they'll still get out and lose the game.

If, on the other hand, the batsmen attack, they are taking greater risks, obviously. However, they just might get the required runs before they get the unplayable ball. Also, there may well be fewer fielders around the bat, so you may have more of the chance if you pop one up.

In any event, asking a batsman to play other than his normal game is asking for trouble. It's like playing out of position in football. It causes a defensive batsman to be late playing an attacking shot, and an attacking batsman to be late playing a defensive shot. Either way it makes them more likely to get out. The only way to win in a low scoring game on a severely turning pitch is to smash the ball all over the place.
