Is it 10 years or even more than that?
And who played in that team?

We were fantastic against Bristol - and should have won easily if it wasn't for a handful of mistakes

Not in my opinion. The lads who were here last season have all upped their game this and the team as a whole are playing football of a higher standard against superior opposition.

You definitely have a point about the opposition and the team kicking on.

I think this is our best team since we lost in the play-off final v Ipswich in 2000. It is far better than any team we turned out in our 2006-2014 spell in the Championship, when we were struggling to avoid relegation virtually every season. I expect a top half finish this season.

Agreed. Apart from the odd game or half a game the lads have held their own, had plenty of possession and played some nice stuff.

Hourihane is a more rounded player at this level than he's ever been, and he's just one example.

I've seen about 135 minutes of poor football this season, 1st halves vs Reading and Brighton and the 2nd half vs Fulham, the rest of it even if we've lost has still fitted in with the quick, attractive, attacking style of football that this team seems to thrive on

And bossed by Huddersfield first half when we couldn't get near them, but could easily have won the game in the second.

These are good times to be a red.

Like you said bossed by Huddersfield, we weren't particularly bad that game just they played very well 1st half and we were very unlucky not to grab a point

Yup. I thought Huddersfield were the best team we'd played until Fulham at home.

Personally thought the Fulham game was more down to our own weaknesses than them outclassing us, Newcastle still best team I've seen this season and I doubt that'll change

The team in the first half of Hill's first season at full strength was as good as the current side IMHO. Drinkwater and Butterfield vs Scowen / Morsy and Hourihane in midfield would have been a fascinating battle, but an on form Vaz Te would have been a potential matchwinner. The first side that Robins built would also have given us a good game. I remember the Middlesboro game just after Christmas where we came from behind the beat them, and played some scintillating stuff in the second half. I genuinely expected us to go on improving, but we just seemed to stagnate, and by the end of that season we'd gone into a Machin-esque shell, which we never emerged from until Robins left us.

I agree we had some good sides in our last spell in the Championship but I would say this one is better, although those teams couldn't seem to last a full season on top form; hopefully that doesn't happen this time around. One thing I prefer at the moment is that we always seems to be prepared for our best players to leave, and if that happens we have replacements lined up, unlike in Hill's first season. Nonetheless it's vital that our best players stay with us for the rest of the season
