Early favourites to take over are Steve Cotterill and Carl Robinson. Will cost em , both sacking Flicker and appointing one of those.
Flicker is seriously lost without the loan window - having to coach players and make them better he's been found out.
Flicker is seriously lost in the post of football team manager. He had one brilliant 6 month spell that resulted in our great escape, but it was built on nothing more than a backs to the wall, nothing to lose tub thumping approach. I could have done it - seriously. Same team talk every week, thump my chest wall a few times, shout ******* COME ON!!! a few times and there you go. On the basis of that, he thought he was Alex Ferguson, but in reality he was the worst actual manager in recent memory - decent tub thumper but seriously bad at actual managing. "Limited" is the politest way of describing his management skills. Fortunately, before he bankrupted us, the club realised pretty quickly that he was a great pretender, and we got shut. I can't remember ever being more relieved at the departure of a manager as when Flicker went. It has taken Bury a while longer and it has cost them a lot of money as a result. He'll never get another Manager's job.
I can't believe he gave Mellis a dead after the performances he put in leading up to Flitcroft getting sacked by us
I really ******* liked him. We smashed everybody for about four months. It was brilliant. Marlon, Marlon, Jason, Jason. I have enjoyed some fine times watching Barnsley, and his decent half-season is amongst the best ever. Vardy, Kane, Drinkwater, Schmeichel and Nigel The Ostrich got pressed to death and couldn't handle it. And I was lucky enough to be at Huddersfield. I'll always love him for that day alone. I know all about what followed with Mike Pollitt and whatever other numpty OAPS he brought in. Don't remind me. But still - I wish him all the best.
I had a lot of time for him. Met him once and he was engaging, passionate, and spoke well about us. That period and run was incredible. No matter how it was achieved the atmosphere around the team and club was immense. We won games we never should have won purely through belief and non-stop commitment. Where I agree with you is there was little tactical plan behind it. We had no playing identity as a team and were tactically erratic. We were carried forward by momentum. Unfortunately that translated in to an amazing short term success but was exposed once the realities of a full season bit. BUT. There is one thing that he did for our club that has been vital in where we are today IMHO. I know it can be easily dismissed as pi55ing money up the wall, and some of what he introduced was over the top, but he convinced the club that they needed to change. There is no comparison with how the club is off the pitch now compared to back then, both in personnel and attitude from the ownership. We had to change off the pitch, Flicker saw that. The internal fighting behind the scenes when he took over was embarrassing.
Flicker did brilliantly to keep us up that year, and I still love hime for it. Doesn't seem like a tactical genius, but certainly a good bloke and great at generating a team spirit. As far as Bury are concerned, he was manager of the month in September! But maybe it has that reek of failure around the place like it did when we sacked him - he wasn't turning that around any time soon. Got Bury promoted too so he's achieved a fair bit in his first few years of management. A promotion is more than LJ has ever done! Hope everything turns out well for him. He galvanised the team and fans that year to keep us up , great end of the season run. Always like him for that season
Who could not like Flitcroft for what he did for us. When he got sacked I thought it was a tad harsh and that we could perhaps have brought in a more experienced Director of Football type to work with him. In retrospect I was wrong.
