And have a new kitchen, bathroom and boiler fitted can anybody tell me where I send the bill to for the tax payer to pay it? Or is it only the people with a few hundred million quid in the bank who get it paid for?

How many people visit your house every year? ;) I imagine you'd expect tax payers money to fund repairs to a museum for example, it makes no real difference that someone lives in said museum.

To be honest, I never understand all this '£300 and odd million pounds of tax payer's money is to be spent...' etc. as I heard on the Radio today. They're not spending £300 and odd millions pounds of my money on that as I don't have £300 and odd millions pounds. Sure, I'd prefer the tax I pay to be spent on education or health for example but it's not going to be is it, it'll just be spent putting a big rusty comb in tarn instead.

£369 million sounds like the amount of money we could save each week by leaving the EU....thought it was going to be spent on the NHS

    Priorities eh?

yes its only them and also.....

the unmarried teen mothers who pop kids out at regular intervals. The ones you see at the post office drawing their obscene amount of benefits and then go next door into the local cheapo convenience store to get their fags , white cider and alcopops... oh and a few chicken nuggets and pot noodles for the kids..... then off they go to watch sky on their plasma TV, just after they have been to the local nonce for their stash.

You're a few years out of date, I'm afraid. Single teenage mums were the scapegoats ten or so years ago - you're supposed to be blaming immigrants now.

Austerity. We are all in it together.

I've got an idea for a programme. It's set on an estate ( more than one in fact) and is about people who've never done a days work in their lives but live on state benefits. I'm sure Channel 4 will pick it up...

Why should it even cost that much money? They could knock it down and build a brand new one for less.

I'd have no problem with the public areas being renovated at public cost with the money from viewing going back to the public purse but the vast private areas? They should come out the royal families own funds for me

The Royal Family's own funds would be the Crown Estate, and that money, save 15%, goes directly into the treasury.

By definition as a taxpayer it is your money. The idea behind a society is that we all contribute as we can and that pooling of resources helps deliver better services to more people than most could afford on their own.

I doubt that the "big rusty comb" cost anything like a tenth of the cost we will spend on their house.

Don't they have access to their own money? I'm sure they do.

Do what the rest of us have to do when our house is knackered, borrow money to fix it.

If you actually bothered to find out where the money is generated from you would know that it will be funded by the crown estates which the Queen owns and a percentage of the profits generated by the estates will be used offset against the amount of tax paid into the governmental coffers. When you generate a significant amount of moneys for the country on a yearly basis a repair bill spread over 10 years for something on this scale is nothing compared to the tax paid and money generated by the royal family's estate . Not to mention the money brought into the country by having a royal family

The Crown estate is not the private property of the Royal family, it belongs to the country, it was surrendered to the state by George III to cover his private debts and to run the country etc, Betty now gets a percentage of the monies instead of the civil list. They originally stole it from the common man anyway!

"The Crown Estate belongs to the reigning monarch 'in right of The Crown', that is, it is owned by the monarch for the duration of their reign, by virtue of their accession to the throne. But it is not the private property of the monarch - it cannot be sold by the monarch, nor do revenues from it belong to the monarch."

You'd think they would have been able to buy their own house too!

Buckingham palace, like Windsor Castle, is owned by the Crown.[104] It is not the monarch's personal property,
