Ha, I saw that. Immediately had a look to see if they're planning a St Petersburg branch but couldn't find anything. Besides, I'm sure I ate far worse in Cambodia earlier this year!

About the posters - I've got a shedload of things to do and very little time before leaving on Tuesday, but if I'm near the shop I'll try to dive in and get some.

I ate fried bat on a stick when I was in Laos. I remember it being quite tasty but I had been sharing an old woman's Khat for 10 hours whilst listening to Thai pop music on a bus so I was probably relatively psychotic at the time.

I reckon I'd definitely draw the line at bat, as I've heard that there is quite a serious rabies issue with them, unlike the deep fried crickets I snaffled, which were obviously from a very hygienic source.

Having said all that, the bats in northern Thailand were very large, and so would definitely be enough to feed a hungry man. Maybe if I was ravenous enough I'd give it a whirl. Probably far less damaging than factory farmed meat

Crickets are tasty. The first time I ate them they were served by an 'almost lady' in high heels in a very s****y nightclub.

The bat was literally bat shaped deep fried on a stick. Possibly not my finest culinary experience but as you say probably not as bad as some of the processed hot dogs I've eaten.

An "almost lady". The shemale working on the train where we had the crickets was nowhere near close to being "almost". Apparently the ones who fail to make the cut in bars often end up working as stewards on overnight trains, for some reason. To be fair this one was quite convincing as a lady. Just that lady happened to be an Asian version of Susan Boyle.

Not sure I like the sound of bat, but anything 'on a stick' and I'm in.

I ate deep fried frog in Thailand. No stick in the world would have saved it.
